Also I tried to drive my car home off a towing lot before paying the fee and they caught me and towed my car back and they are now charging me twice, so I am taking the bus again, which is nice. It was wild though, one of them pulled a gun on me and another yanked my keys out of the ignition while I had my window rolled down trying to de-escalate. (I should have just been faster.) Basically, I thought I had left my license in the car then couldn't find it so I decided to drive home to look for it. The police said they could consider my actions a theft of service and I said I never refused to pay the fee (true) and that I consider my $6000 vehicle to be unreasonable collateral for a $267 fee, over what was essentially a parking violation (it was one of those snooty little businesses downtown with a private parking lot, but like three hours after closing on a thursday, so I thought I would be ok to park for like an hour and I half, I was just across the street), the police said they're not sure because the towing companies are private businesses not associated with legal traffic enforcement etc, I said I still own my vehicle, I have the title, it's unreasonable collateral, and they said they have to check with their attorney and their attorney wasn't sure and I would have to take to it civil court. I'm just going to wait until I can pay the fee to take it home because it's not really an emergency, but I thought that was very interesting and it seems like a case someone else might be able to tackle and have some luck with if they felt like it.
