marnas pell is home to corpses and death, nothing and no one else truly really lived there. except soraya. aurelian titus lived in the ruins of the city, honing his own magic and fathering a daughter. a mysterious man soraya was kept away from people unless they directly worked with him. it was his plan for greatness. he would become more powerful than anyone and when the time came she would join him.

soraya's friends from an early age were the corpses, the dead that lingered along the shores and in the city. people loved to leave their dead in marnas pell, and soraya loved to find them. fascinating thing was death and how you could use the dead. the books in the libraries lead her to one place. the necropolis in nevarra. she longed to join them, longed to become a mortaitasi where they just knew they would be the best. but any talk to leaving was shut down by their father.

with their father's teachings and their own natural curiosity lead to blood magic, something that soraya was taught was normal. a taboo some places but she could use it, it was her right as a mage of tevinter. what people thought was normal was never of any consequence to her, soraya was a child who played with dead bodies or dying ones.

blood magic was powerful and easy, but watching her father gather people into a room to use them, kill them all at once... that was something that sat heavy on her. after seeing it multiple times it became an obsessive theory, that they could be much more efficient in blood magic. aurelian was wasting what could have been more, perhaps not ethical but more efficient. all of the books they read was wasteful, it was gruesome for the sake of it. completely impractical.

aurelien then told her that soon their time would come. the dragons would bless them, and he showed them the people who flocked to his word. the word of the dragon and the word of tevinter. his plans seemed to pay off when the imperial divine urian nihalias took notice and invited him to the magisterium. a man from nothing with no name and as far as they knew, no family. their father left the ruins of marnas pell and again ignoring their pleas to travel to nevarra.

being alone was partially a blessing, there were no more slaves brought to her home, something she found distasteful, but never felt strong enough to speak about. soraya was free to do as she liked. they were able to do whatever they wanted, dead roamed the ruins, blood was given freely or given by irredeemable criminals. perhaps she could create her own necropolis for herself.

it was only a few years later when soraya was taken to the imperial divine by his clerics. aurelien had tried to overthrow him and those who supported their father told him about soraya. when she was taken to minrathous she expected death, instead she was an example. an apprentice to the imperial divine was unheard of, but that's what they called them. the truth of her title was captive. she was free to study, free to practice magic, as long as the imperial divine allowed it. as long as he could see her. even when she herself begged to be sent away, to let the titus bloodline leave tevinter, she was denied. she would do what he said, and how he said it. and he would be able to watch her until and control her.

as the venatori rose to power soraya was quickly involved in the whispers and talks. they wanted the world to follow tevinter, they wanted the world to bow to their blood magic and follow their way. the only way was theirs. they would erase everything else, nothing was worthy of existing unless it was their way. as a scholar and someone particularly invested in nevarra, the words were sickening. erasing every other form of magic but theirs, it would disrupt the world, it would ruin her own future studies.

after a meeting with a few of the magisters and the imperial divine soraya couldn't hold her tongue. the divine said nothing when she spoke against the venatori, against them taking everything from other nations. losing everything anyone else had learned and making it theirs or making it useless. her words were selfish, her reasonings selfish. but it would lose lives that could be used, it could lose magics that she could study. but she was waved off.

the next week they were called to the man and given a new job. they knew about the mage rebellion in the south, they all knew it and it was seen as a new possibility for tevinter. going south and trying to sway the free mages to the side of tevinter was the goal, finding information on how they could be turned to the right side of magic. their other job was to find out information about this inquisition. and find out how much of their views contradicted those of tevinter.

vi.  quick points

soraya is a very selfish person, her reasons for hating the venatori are because they would mess with her life and goals. she doesn't believe in tevinter supremacy because it would take away things she likes.

she's in the south posed as a scholar, if asked they're, there to learn more magics. but being away from tevinter, the place she's been kept captive has made them happier.

soraya doesn't agree with having slaves, she is at times shocked by how freely some elves can walk around and is particularly interested in the dalish. their magics are ones she doesn't know yet.

the fact that they could be turned to the side of the inquisition is very real, though they probably wont like their blood magic love? people don't get "ethical" blood magic like soraya does.

creepy creepy. she loves dead bodies, loves skeletons, loves everything to do with death. they will talk about it for hours if they can.

now that they're around people soraya loves it, after being alone as a child and then kept locked away after that, they are more than happy to be around people and be seen.

v.  story

the son of king maric theirin and the now grand enchanter fiona, alistair's birth was always a secret from just about everyone. even alistair isn't aware that his mother is the elven mage. to him his mother was a serving woman who died in childbirth. but he was aware early that his father was king maric. and that he was never to tell anyone.

fostered by earl eamon guerrin in redcliffe he worked as a stableboy, finding people in the castle didn't really care to see the bastard boy who eamon kept around, many of them incorrectly assuming that he was eamon's son. it was something the earl's wife took to heart, demanding he be sent to the chantry and away from redcliffe and the rumors he brought.

the news angering alistair who was slowly making his own friends and place to be in redcliffe. even if he had to sometimes make a fool of himself to get their attention they still gave him attention and they wanted to be around him. the only thing he had of his mother was thrown against a wall, breaking and alistair storming out claiming he didn't care what happened to it.

life in the chantry was miserable for alistair. he felt no pull towards religion and it bored him beyond belief. the life of the mages never seemed right to him either, but he held his tongue on that. the grand enchanter being his worst enemy that at times he made for himself. if he could annoy her and get a few laughs from his fellow initiates he did it.

when the grey warden duncan arrived alistair saw freedom. honor in something that gave purpose but also meant being free. his attempts at the tourney held for him was pathetic but for some reason duncan wanted him for the wardens. fighting the grand cleric and accepting that alistair was not the best fighter or most well behaved.

joining the grey wardens was freedom and family, people who didn't care who he was or where he was from. they made him strong and worthy of being part of the order. losing them, losing duncan almost took everything from him. if it hadn't been for bhelen aeducan he would have given up.

stopping the fifth blight and reforging the ferelden grey wardens has been one of his greatest accomplishments. killing loghain is a close second. his only regret is that bhelen had to die for it. alistair thinking his death would be less of a loss for the world.

everyone now knows he's the bastard son of maric after he was revealed by earl eamon during the landsmeet. eamon wanted him to be king, there were others who wanted to keep the theirin bloodline on the throne, but in the end he shut down the idea completely and anora became queen of ferelden.

since the end of the blight alistair has been with the warden's, he's climbed their ranks to senior warden. he's happy in the order, but as strange things start happening to the people he views as family, he's taken it upon himself to try to find the answers.

alistair is the bastard son of maric theirin and his mother is the grand enchanter fiona. he doesn't know she's his mother, he doesn't know he's half elf.

alistair is the king of self-deprecating humor, it used to be worse but he still doesn't think very much of himself. he does fully think he should have been the one to die killing the arch demon.

not the smartest person but also not as dumb as he acts, he's goofy and likes to make himself stand out sometimes. alistair is a good guy over all.

was raised in redcliffe until the earls wife sent him to the chantry because she thought he might actually be eamon's son.

hated the chantry, hated the rules and everything about it. never spoke out about the mages and for a while didn't fully trust them but he didn't think it was right. when he joined the grey wardens alistair started looking at duncan as kind of a father figure.

alistair lost his father figure and friends when loghain betrayed his half-brother cailan. he and the hero of ferelden started finding the groups who swore to aid the grey wardens. it was because of that effort that they were able to end the 5th blight.

the eldest child of malcolm and leandra hawke, marian was born on the outskirts of ameranthine in ferelden. magic manifested for hawke at an early age, though not as explosive as their younger sister, her magic presented when she was 6. leandra and malcolm busy handling the twins marian decided she would find her own way to get things from the cupboard. she was ecstatic when the doors of it burst open and the sweets went right into her hands.

for a while it was just she and malcolm training and practicing magic. pouts from carver and bethany when he would spend time with her over them. something that only got worse from carver when bethany's magic manifested as well.

running from place to place and staying out of sight was hard on her but she understood. she was part of the reason they kept moving. but she was the one who would have to be strong. people were drawn to her, even when they weren't supposed to. people wanted to be near her. she wanted to look out for her siblings, no matter how hard carver pushed her away. but when you had to hide your entire life attention felt sometimes nice.

when malcolm died she was broken, when carver left she was broken again but she understood. she understood that it was on her shoulders to take care of her mother and bethany. she was the eldest. leandra expected her to fill those shoes that were left behind.

running from lothering, losing her sister, her family being homeless. it was all on her. she'll never forget when her mother told her it was her fault. everything was on her shoulders, she never asked for the spotlight but she had it. that didn't change in kirkwall. underhanded deals, working with crime lords and going into the deep roads. it was supposed to help their family, instead she was again left without a sibling. at least this time he didn't die.

stopping the qunari invasion and becoming champion was never something she envisioned but she had it. a title that was again on her shoulders. people looked to her for leadership and guidance that she was again completely unqualified for. when tensions grew between the mages and templars she was a go between for some reason. she was a mage, an apostate but even the templars expected her to talk to the mages for them. until that blew up. along with the chantry.

after that she went into hiding, only her closest friends and brother knew where she was when she was able to get ahold of them. when things again literally exploded, she had to make her appearance, hopefully not to be the hero again but as more of a slightly interesting side character.

the oldest of three siblings they lived basically in hiding because of three family members having magic.

popular but not the nicest person, a smart ass and people find it charming and they always have. in kirkwall it was even more evident. basically the smart ass charismatic idiot that you either loved or hated.

has always been in the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up at blame for things or as a hero.

when the qunari were in kirkwall their leader respected hawke and so she became one of the only people who could talk to them. even when she tried to not be involved she was involved in everything. when the qunari attacked she helped defend the city and then fought their leader. the rest of them leaving kirkwall and her becoming champion.

she was an apostate but the templars and commander meridith tolerated her because of her title. with the mages she was one of them. she was loved and hated in kirkwall and then involved in almost everything that happened in the city with or without her wanting to be. when the chantry was blown up by her friend anders, she was thrust into the war and sided with the mages. helping start the rebellion.

went into hiding after the explosion, even with people looking all over for her she was happy to hide away and just be with her friends. but when it was corypheus she had to act.
