I’ve seen people use the term before, yes, and although I think usually nonbinary is more common, realistically it’s not something I can give you a yes/no answer for.

generally it’s described as a phenomenon experienced by women loving women (specifically lesbians but not necessarily exclusive to lesbians) where society’s expectations of women to be heterosexual (and feminine) lead to confusion and negative feelings relating to their status as women loving women. it’s about cultural and societal expectations that don’t take into account or respect the position of a woman not interested in men or not centering their lives around men to do so and instead makes it harder to reconcile with that status because of the world we live in. here are a few good posts written by woc that explains how compulsory heterosexuality can effect the lives of wlw.

it doesn’t just mean lesbian. as stated in our faq, it means women loving women and it’s an umbrella term for lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, and otherwise women who are interested in women sexually and romantically. and, of course, that would mean that all wlw (all black wlw, anyways) are welcome in this space.

seeing as sleeping with men is purely your profession, of course you can still call yourself a lesbian. but it’s also zero (0) percent my business how you identify. compulsory heterosexuality is a thing and many lesbians sleep with/date men because of it, it’s up to you how you identify. if you’re more comfortable with the label “lesbian” rather than “bisexual” or vice-versa, go for it.
