Rewatching season two right now and damn i forgot how hot that Homie/Stromfront scene was😰 i love how majority of the fandom simp for Soldier boy and don’t even consider Homelander attractive yet Homelander is canonically better in bed than him😭

I keep toying with the idea of a Supe character that lives vicariously through Homelander whenever he reacts with violence. Even if it might be detrimental to his image, because it's strangely cathartic for her to watch someone lash out (granted, it's all fun and games until she's caught in the crosshairs lmao). Or when he's being a catty bitch and she's just tickled by his attitude, not that she'd ever openly feed into it. I have so many more thoughts that I wanna expand on, but I just wanted to share that tidbit.

honestly this kind of dynamic touches on why a lot of us love homelander. there's a special kind of freedom to be explored in characters like him.
there's a foreword by rob schrab that i LOVE. to paraphrase, rob proposes that there is a wolf-faced monster in all of us. one that must be fed. we all have different ways to feed our monsters: violent revenge fantasies, video game violence, horror movies, whatever it is! all these things feed that primal thing in us. a little splash of evil in our mind palace to keep us sane in an insane world.
basically: are you tired of being nice? don't you just wanna go apeshit?
homelander is pure id. he IS his little monster, driven entirely by pleasure principle. he demands constant and immediate gratification in all things, regardless of what is socially acceptable.
you're absolutely right about the catharsis that comes with that, even vicariously. i think that's why there's so many homelander fics that focus on that kind of violent wish fulfilment. attack dog homelander. it feeds all of our little monsters.
i have a few fics that touch on this, like homelander breaking the hand of an abusive customer, or him outright killing someone for you.
i would LOVE to read a fic about a character who's fully aware of this vicarious pleasure!!!
