"I still cannot believe you are one of us."
Ana's monotone voice was barely audible to Kara's ears. She did not know what she heard and what she did not. She felt every single ray the sun sent her way, like it had a personal problem with her. Both of them were seated on a bench.
Ana, despite wearing pretty normal summer clothing, had on a crop top and shorts in grayscale and white colors. But it was Kara who had to convince her to FINALLY change up the outfits she chose.
If it was not for her, Ana would have normally left the house in her uniform, or simply in other long, dark-colored clothes. Saying that Viltrumites could handle much harsher sunlight than this and that this was nothing to her, but Kara always had her ways of making Ana question herself.
Their AC had broken, so now Kara was dying every second spent in their apartment. She was always sitting in front of a fan with little distance between them, tongue hanging out and panting like some dog.
Later, it was Ana's suggestion that maybe Kara's knowledge was more fried from the heatwave than it already had been. She suggested that because of their ability to fly, they could go to colder places for the time being and return home once they felt content.
Kara jumped at the idea. Well, tried to jump, and ended up face planting right in front of Ana's feet with a harsh thud. Ana only sighed through her nose, and with that they had headed off to all the places she and Kara knew of.
Mount Everest, but they left five minutes later because Kara was complaining about the cold. They went somewhere warmer to warm up from the cold, then they went to Alaska because Kara was dying from the sun. And again, again, and again.
Until now they were left sitting on some bench back in town at the local park where Kara had her head leaned back against the bench, manspreading and breathing heavily.
Ana had her hands folded neatly on her lap, her composure only ever so slightly shifted, not because she too was getting to the heat from the sun, but because she had to princess carry Kara to more than five different countries, two islands, and five mountains all within the span of two hours.
"God.... What am I gonna do..." Kara whined out, in what Ana thought to herself was exaggerated, but with how heavily Kara's chest was rising and falling like a dog in heat, maybe it was not.
She looked around at her surroundings, seeing Kara was not the only one suffering from this heat. From little kids, adults, and the elderly, all of them were affected by the burning, glaring sun.
What caught her attention was the whining cry of a small child tugging on the shorts of their father. Ana could make out some of what the child was saying even though they were quite far away.
"DADDDY..!!! When will it get colder?? It's so hot my feet are melting..!"
The father looked down at the child before picking them up into his arms.
"I know baby, I know. But unless someone brings the entire Atlantis here, we won't be getting cold for a while."
The kid whined into their dad's shirt.
"Oh! Maybe we could break open the fire hydrant and we'll get lots of water! Can you do that daddy?" the child asked hopefully.
The dad awkwardly laughed.
"You know daddy's strong... but we can't have the police be angry at us now, can we?"
"They'd understand daddy! They are nice people!" the child continued nonetheless.
Ana shifted her stare toward the object the child had called a fire hydrant, pointing at the red object with hope. Before the father exchanged any more words with his daughter, Ana could no longer hear them as they began walking away.
Ana stood up and began making her way toward the object.
Earning a weak whimper from Kara, who raised her head, immediately regretting it as she slapped a hand behind her neck in pain.
"Ahha... ghh! Neck pain..~"
Ana ignored her whining as her eyes remained glued to the object below them. Standing in front of it, she stared at it intensely.
"Why are ya staring at it like it offended your bloodline?"
Ana did not answer and only kept staring at it.
Before Kara could ask again, in the blink of an eye Ana's hand rose before neatly slicing the top clean off, and water burst into the air, reaching above the height of the surrounding buildings. Kara shrieked as she was pushed back and fell onto her back from the sheer pressure.
Just as she groaned while getting up, she roared again as the water blasted into her body once more because of how close she was to it.
"Language." Ana said, her voice ever so slightly raised while she herself was being actively splashed by the intense water pressure.
She let out a quiet, surprised gasp as kids from all directions, along with adults, came running toward the water cheering and celebrating. The children splashed and stomped through the water covering the pavement, their high-pitched giggles and laughter filling the park as they played.
Meanwhile, those who were more wary quickly ran through the areas where the pressure was weaker, still content with the refreshing relief as they sighed happily.
Ana stood beneath the stream without issue, earning confused glances from passersby, not long before they too ran through the water, enjoying the cool breeze the wind provided.
Kara finally got to her feet with an exaggerated exhale, coughing out some water.
She tried to catch her breath while avoiding getting water up her nostrils.
Ana simply raised a brow.
"You complain even when you get something you wished for."
"It's good and all but... AGH!"
A harsh splash struck her arm.
"I don't want a tsunami busting my ass open..."
She continued fighting against the intense stream before it somehow turned into a game when some children began challenging her. Kara immediately took the challenge and began fighting the water, batting it away with ease as she earned gasps from the children, continuing to shamelessly flex her strength.
She says she doesn't like using her powers up until it comes to flexing to children?
At some point Kara even began playing games with the children, standing a fair distance away from them and turning around every now and then. Whenever she looked back, the children froze in place, giggling in anticipation. Before long she had a whole crowd gathered just for that.
Ana slowly closed her eyes after a moment, taking in everything happening around her. She breathed evenly despite the aggressive stream crashing against her with relentless force. She stood there without her posture ever breaking, yet without even realizing it, her shoulders relaxed ever so slightly.
That moment was interrupted when a rough hand landed on her shoulder, making her snap her eyes open.
A creepy stranger waved at her.
"Hey... you're a real piece of hot stuff. Can I get your number?"
Ana stared at him, not letting even a hint of surprise or disgust show on her face.
"Yes. You may receive it. It starts with 3, 2, 1."
"GET OFF MY ALIEN BEST FRIEND BITCH!"
The man was slammed harshly against the pavement with a wrestling move as Kara hooked him and drove him down, following it up by striking him square in the solar plexus.
The children she had been playing with immediately turned their attention toward her, earning gasps and even a few cheers before Kara got back up with a scoff, dusting off her shoulders and making her way back to the children, flashing them a thumbs up.
"Thats how ya do it with weirdos kiddos!"
"Did you say alien?" one of the children spoke up loudly raising their hand.
Kara's eyes widened, before she in a dramatic clasp put her hands together laughing akwardly "AHAAA!.. Uhm. LETS GO PLAY MR WOLF!"
