My daddy always saidĀ āpackaging isnāt boringā
When I was 16 and I first started working in this company my pop said to meĀ āyou know son, packaging doesnāt have to be boringā. At that time I didnāt agree, I wanted to be out with my friends skateboarding and chasing girls but he was making me earn my money and at the time I resented him and everything about his company. Packaging was boring. Manufacturing it was boring. I mean itās made of cardboard and there arenāt many things less exciting than cardboard.Ā
Now as I approach my middle age Iām starting to appreciate what the old man said. Packaging doesnāt need to be boring and weāre doing our best to make our customers stand out from the crowd and beat out their competitors.Ā
One of my favourites although itās not that new is spot uv laminating. Get yourself a nice matt printed box and then put the varnish on the top. Personally I prefer a solid colour for the background and just let the varnish bring out the detail - IE the logo or brand completely in the lamination and not printed onto the box itself but it can look great on top of parts of an image to make it stand out - one thing it doesn't lend itself well to is small detail - it will be almost impossible to get it to line up correctly.Ā
Something weāve started looking at recently is the fusion of technology and packaging, now that sure as hell is not boring! After some real searching around to find a company with the correct credentials to produce for the U.S market we found ourselves a company who produced LCD brochures. We called these guys up and asked them if it was feasible to fit one of their itty bitty screens in the top of a box. They answered in the affirmative and we teamed up to produce something pretty darn special.Ā
So pop was right. Packing isnāt always boring and weāre going to do our best to honor him by developing the best packaging we possibly can.Ā
