I think it's important to get the voice of a character right when recasting... Yeah, it feels disrespectful to replace someone with a soundalike when they die or otherwise can't return, but to use a completely different sounding voice means you are sacrificing that character's history on the altar.
Prince Gumball in adventure time season 7 was the same person as Gumball in season 3, but Gary Prince is a completely different person to Gumball, and Gary Prince in Season 2 is a completely different person to Gary Prince in Season 1. You cannot imagine Season 1 redubbed with the Season 2 voice actor or vice versa. The way they speak is completely different, they are different characters.
Meanwhile Prismo and Marshall still sounded like Prismo and Marshall when they had replacement actors.
