Went out to see a rare orchid (Spiranthes diuvialis) with my mom and got a new moth and beetle out of the walk!
The moth is Cisseps fulvicollis, which is a type of tiger moth! They’re widely distributed in the eastern US I am honestly surprised I didn’t have this one yet.
The beetle is Disonycha alternata, which is a species of leaf beetle. They’re more sparsely scattered in the eastern and western US.

See I would take dragon wings because they are the most practical. Insect wings are fragile, if I had bird wings I would need to preen all the time and it would be messy, fairy wings see insect wings, phoenix wings would cause obvious problems, and while bat wings would be cool I feel like they would be annoying to wash they also might be a bit fragile
FINALLY making an actual post about this guy! This is Azurion the dragon. He's an ~8 foot long puppet controlled entirely by my left arm and hand, including the blinking mechanism! I also made a fake arm, and I think it really adds to the illusion that Azurion is 'real'. The project took roughly 6 months to complete (including planning, slacking, and lots of trial and error), and he was finished just in time for the last 2022 weekend of the Colorado Renaissance Festival. I plan on adding more to him and refining the details quite a bit, but I'm pretty pleased with the current results! 3/22/2023 edit: thank you so much for all the love!! If you're in Colorado and want to see Azurion in person, I fully plan on attending the Renaissance Festival with my dragon again this year. Not sure what date(s) yet, but if you're interested, keep an eye out!

Yesterday I went on a mass upload spree to get myself to 6,000 species
I was uploading for 11 hours straight, I hit 6k about 10 hours in. I ended up uploading 479 observations in that one go. Immediately after I went to bed
Favorite from that is the Greater Sac-winged Bat (Saccopteryx bilineata)
