“So you say…” he murmured softly. Yes he was confident in his looks and his graces, but he knew just how terrible he was with people and Dite feared, deep down, that he was pushing Keith away. The unease he felt bubbling up in his stomach stemmed from his lack of confidence. On ice he never feared anything, he knew he was the epitome of breathtaking–but off ice? He was unsure. He hid it well, but he was as insecure as a person could be. His past relationship had…well it had damaged him.
“I think I’ll go home for today.” he stated louder, flipping his hair and turning to leave the ice. It wasn’t easy but he managed to hide the tremor in his voice as he kept his back turned to Keith. It seemed so silly to cry over something like this but…he really had hoped the fiery skater could be more than just a partner on ice. “I’m already fine on my own…” It was true, he didn’t need the practice for himself.
“If you really don’t want to skate together then you should hurry up and figure it out so that we can switch to solo performances.” His tone had turned…back to that of a professional. He couldn’t keep it light or flirty, he just felt too hurt at the moment. He never could manage well with other skaters…they always gave up on him. He supposed he was giving up on himself…
❝Wait–❞ He’d stayed silent through the crashing waves that nearly drowned him with shock. Dite was Aphrodtie on the ice– cool, confident, and downright (sometimes irritating) with cockiness. But the guy had earned it. To see all of that come crashing down, over something so small as Keith’s opinions or actions? It was worse than any form of yelling, a slap to the face, or any comeback could have ever done damage-wise. Because of this and the way Dite spoke of skating and showed his passions through the sport, it had Keith questioning himself. ❝Just– give me a moment,❞ he said while staying put deep in thought. There was no way he was going to offer something he didn’t mean, but Keith needed time to understand if this was the best decision. Was Keith great at skating? Technically speaking, yes. He was almost a machine busting through top scores, landing his jumps, and perfectly executing his footwork. But was he as happy, effected, or passionate about the sport? As much as his assigned partner was? Teeth grit as the answer was so obvious now. Maybe this was why unhappiness and irritability clung to his back like a monster with its claws deep into him, why he couldn’t skate with others when their passions were so obvious when put right next to him. ❝I’m not skating with you,❞ Keith started❝, or anybody. Look…❞ He really did not want to get into his past or what had dragged him kicking and screaming into the sport in the first place– that was too personal. Besides, this was about Dite right now. ❝You’re going to skate a solo routine… and I’m going to help you. Your movements are fluid enough to not show the effort behind them, but your technical foundations need work. I can– I’m going to help you.❞
He was shocked and a bit surprised. In the end though it wasn’t what he wanted...he really did want to skate with Keith. He thought together they’d make a well rounded team. He supposed in the end this was...as good of teamwork as he was going to get. Unfortunately he was bitter and easily hurt. A rose is only beautiful until met with thorns, after all, and Keith had just met the thorns of Dites heart; the ones meant to protect him from further heartache. He could still recall the ache of those words. “I can’t skate with you anymore, I don’t love you.”
Rather than cry he simply bristled, shoving his feelings aside and replacing them with anger and abrasiveness. It was the only way he knew how to protect himself. “Thank you but I already have a coach and he’s more than capable of helping me with that!” his tone had a bite to it he’d never used on Keith; he was horribly hurt and too scared to show just how far under his skin Keith had gotten, even to himself. He grabbed his skate covers angrily and promptly marched back into the locker room.
Once there, however, he came undone. His carefully constructed facade just broke all together and he couldn’t stop the tears sliding down his cheeks. He was such a fool! Of course Keith didn’t want to skate with him, no one ever did He had been fooling himself this entire time. He thought he’d learned his lesson that first time on the ice as he was left with the pieces of a broken heart...but it appeared he really hadn’t learned a thing.
“I’m such a fool...”

A warm chuckle escaped the others lips as he rested his chin on his hand. “Well aren’t you just the charming one this afternoon~” The swedish man shifted, moving to poke the others cheek lightly. “Really now, such a sour expression will scare score points away, not gain them. We have much to prepare for after all. You still haven’t even practiced once with me either, silly~”
His tone was smooth as he spoke; teasing and familiar. He’d never had the fear of Keith that so many others seemed to have. In fact, the more time they spent together the more he teased Keith. He almost seemed to have gentled toward him. In truth Dite was experiencing small flutters in his stomach. He hadn’t felt this way in a long time and he was a little nervous.
His graceful facade cracked slightly and he turned his face away. “Do you…really hate the idea of skating with me that much Keith?” he questioned. He never called his partner by his name but he did now. He was genuinely worried about this.
❝I’m not being–❞ He hesitated on the word, feeling like it was childish to say it as he swatted Dite’s hand away from his cheek. The very touch made his stomach spin with a frenzy of nerves. Dammit– how could he skate like this? Forget just doing a short program in front of an audience; Keith couldn’t figure out how they could manage for hours and hours of training! ❝I’m not being silly!❞ Unsure of how to carry himself, not being one to become so infatuated on something so shallow as looks, he turned his upper body away from his skating partner while eyeing him cautiously. Dite knew just what his looks did to others, letting him know just how things were going down on Keith’s part? It’d just be more mockery and teasing thrown Keith’s way. ❝I don’t hate skating with you,❞ he corrected. No, he just couldn’t focus– totally different problem.

Instead of playing it off, or being cool, amethyst eyes squinted as his mouth pulled downward by the weight of a sour expression. ❝What?❞
