The Driver

Blake gave a good natured laugh as the other man laughed. “Don’t worry about it it’s cool, and I’m sure Maverick here loves the attention.” He smiled and scratched the dogs head. “he’s pretty friendly, you can pet him if you’d like.”

“Oh thank god,” he replied as he knelt down to pet the puppy. “I always wanna pet people’s dogs on the street but I always feel like a bother having them stop and stuff.” Tyson beamed as he turned his attention to the dog. “Hi buddy! Aren’t you the cutest little thing on this block! Yes you are! Yes you are!”

Blake sighed in relief at the familiar face, “yeah I’m okay. Sorry, was sort of zoned out. How are you though?” He asked with a smile as the two dogs sniffed at each other, happy that they still get along.

Usually Blake would take Maverick around the park or quieter back streets when they went for walks, still fairly young the busy streets could be a bit daunting. But lately they’d started walking down main street and Blake couldn’t be prouder. His best friend Maverick was doing great, he bent down and scratched the golden dog behind his ear “good boy Maverick, good boy.” When Blake stood up again he felt someone run into him. “I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have done that so abruptly. Are you okay?”

Walking Elvis to go to the dog park, bumping into someone and their dog by accident. “Oh, lord. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. Elvis just really wanted to go to the dog park and I wasn’t paying attention,” Rosie smiled  as she took a deep breath. “What’s his name?”

Usually Blake would take Maverick around the park or quieter back streets when they went for walks, still fairly young the busy streets could be a bit daunting. But lately they’d started walking down main street and Blake couldn’t be prouder. His best friend Maverick was doing great, he bent down and scratched the golden dog behind his ear “good boy Maverick, good boy.” When Blake stood up again he felt someone run into him. “I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have done that so abruptly. Are you okay?”

Alisa had been walking down the busy street, on the phone with her mother, having a quick catch up before her mother went off. “Don’t worry I am perfectly fine, you head off to bed mother it must be late there.”She said saying goodbye to her mother before she hit full force into somebody. “I’m fine, it was my fault, I was paying more attention to my phone than to you.”

He nodded along “after work and uni I’m the same way” he said with a chuckle, he kept smiling as he saw the big smile and tongue poking out on his dog, “his name is Maverick”

The smile on his face grew wider, “oh yeah I love John Wick. That’s an awesome idea” he nodded along. He rubbed the back of his neck, “yeah, I’m probably borderline obsessed. I went as Goose from Top Gun last year with my dog Maverick.“ He laughed at the memory.

“Isn’t he though? And I honestly can see where he came from cause I can’t promise I wouldn’t do the same if someone took out my dog.” She winked playfully. “Thanks,” Alex smiled brightly. Her eyes widened a bit at his words, leaning forward a bit. “Really? That’s so cool! And refreshing to be honest, most only go as current pop culture characters. Not to mention the fact that you took your dog with you. You know I’ve been dying for years to get a jacket like Charlie’s?” Her head tilted to the side a bit. “What kind of dog is Maverick?”

He gave a broad smile and nodded “trust me, I’m almost always thinking of food. I understand” He let out a low chuckle before adding, “oh yeah of course, he’s very friendly and excited, it’s his first time really walking though the busy city. You can pat him if you want.” 

“Right? After rehearsals, literally all I think about is food. Where to get it, what to eat, all of it,” the Brit smiled over at him. “Oh good. Hey bud,” she spoke towards the dog, rubbing the back of his neck. “What’s his name?”

“No no don’t worry” he said, waving off her apology. “This is Maverick” he said as he scratched his head and smiled at the lady in front of him. “You can pet him if you want, he’s really friendly.”

“Did you try to escape?” She asked the dog and laughed. “Sorry, I really love dogs, have two of my own.” Holly said before petting the dog on the head.

Blake stopped and smiled, realising this could go on for hours if left un checked. He looked down at Maverick and in a higher than normal voice said “we’re okay aren’t we buddy? Yes we are.” before abruptly stopping, standing up taller and clearing his throat. Putting on a slightly deeper than normal voice. “We’re fine thanks. Hope I’m not holding you up?”

Andrew laughed, in good spirits. “I’m glad everyone’s okay.” He smiled looking at both of them. “Not at all, I just got off work so my mind was a bit in the clouds, especially on a beautiful day like this.” If he wasn’t already he be sure to spend some time outside before the weather took a turn for the worse. “Hows the walk going so far? If not I’m keeping you either.”

Blake walked into the pizza place and was immediately met by the sight of his friend he raised his hands in a mock surrender. “Hey calm down man, I got her as quick as I could” he said with a laugh. “At least told me you ordered already. I’m starving.” He exclaimed as he gestured towards the counter.

“Nah, the last thing I was gonna do is order an XL pizza only for you to tell me you’re lactose or something,” Dominic replied quickly, shaking his head. Pushing off the wall, he turned towards the door of the pizza parlour and walked inside. Instantly, the scents of marinara sauce, garlic, cheese and basil hit him like a truck and his mouth began to water. “I vote pepperoni, banana peppers, mushrooms and olives.”

“Oh hey man.” Blake said with a smile. “Yeah yeah I’m good. Just a little on edge. It’s Mavericks first time walking through the busy city. But he’s doing well.” He said nodding to himself. “Busy day?”

Archie bends down to stroke Maverick  “ I think you are more nervous about this then he is” He replied laughing.  “ Yes it’s been busy but I am free now if you want to do anything?”

He nodded along “Alright you’ve definitely got a point there. Although if you did ever had bed hair I didn’t notice.” He gave a shrug and smiled, “what can I say, James Bond is awesome.” He paused for a moment a small smile on his face before adding “Lexi? I Like that.” His smile grew and he nodded, “It’s nice to meet you too Lexi.” He didnt want the conversation to be over so soon, “So are you a big movie fan then?”

“James Bond is awesome. Him and John Wick are my favorites for sure.” She nodded in agreement. Alex then smiled softly at his words, shrugging. “Thanks, I actually went as ‘Lexi’ Luthor one year for Halloween.” The blonde laughed at the memory, hugging her knees to her chest. Her smile morphed into a grin when he spoke, a light blush tinting her cheeks as she nodded. “Massive, I’m a self proclaimed movie nerd. What about you?”
