Black Foliage

There was never any intention to release these songs to the public. I had made these for myself; explorations of recording techniques and ways of playing instruments. Selecting groups of notes, playing each group at random, recording multiple takes without monitoring or even trying to remember what I had done in the first place. Everything relaxed. Everything at it's own pace.

I listened to these songs for a few months. To and from work, sitting in my room, reading, playing video games. I enjoyed the space they created when I turned them on. Enjoyed how they let me insert my thoughts in-between the notes. I started coding a video game, intent on turning into a virtual space the landscapes these songs created.

I forgot that I had added the “Blicero EP” and “V.” to youtube not too long ago.

In the meantime, I’ve been patiently deconstructing most of my work. Finishing some more pop oriented demos ahead of a concerted attempt to begin proper recordings, dodging show offers, curating a demo reel for an attempt at legitimate sound work, and building a generative installation piece for ultra-hip underground art shows.

Something that I’ve been thinking/saying a lot as of late. Maybe it’s a quaint way of explaining why it feels as if things are in the constant state of coming undone. There seems to be an interminable procession of people claiming that the world is ending and desperately acting on those apocalyptic fantasies.

I’ve been trying to see things from the angle of these recent events being the last gasp of the truly desperate lashing out at their perceived diminishing place in society at large. An end to supremacy, to imperialism, to a life dominated by wholly meaningless decisions. I’d like to think that’s at the heart of all of this. A life where the things we do have agency. It’s something modern society has yet to provide for all but a moneyed few. That’s bullshit.
