I don't believe anything white tumblr queers say about the virtues of 'building community' when they've made it clear 'community' to them means 'me and my white friends.' what are you building? a polycule on a hobby farm?
once you guys start building real connections with asylum seekers and incarcerated people and single parents and nursing home residents and anyone other than the people you find it easiest to immediately relate to, I'll take you seriously. 'building community' is meaningless if it doesn't transcend colonial borders and prison walls and all the other imposed divisions that exist to ... you know ... fracture communities

Foxy Brown (Vibe Magazine, 1999)
I really look forward to black movies until I find out the plot revolves around police brutality or some form of violence ,trauma or tragedy.
I understand that it happens and it needs to be addressed but , after a while its stressful, like I'd really rather it be a cheesy romantic comedy or an action like something lighter. Sometimes it's too heavy
i feel like directors just replaced slave narratives and civil rights movies with modern police brutality movies like they don’t seem to understand that black people don’t want movies on our “condition” and how hard it is to be a black person in america when we say we want black movies we mean like.... twilight.. with niggas or lord of the rings or pride and prejudice or a zombieland... with niggas or literally anything besides us reliving trauma for 2+ hours
