Just a goth bisexual who enjoys reading books

Okay, so, I currently live with my parents in a closed-off community (I'm currently looking for a job, but even after getting one it would probably take me years to afford my own apartment) that allows both full-year buyers and renters for the summer season alike. A group of volunteers within the community usually hold events throughout the year as well. I like quite a few of these events as they get me out of the house and will sometimes also benefit other people (i.e. every December people donate gifts and gather together for a wrapping party so children who come from not-so well off families can have something to open from "Santa" on Christmas).

At the start of the year, my dad was asked to volunteer his time and help out as some people had recently stopped showing up at the events they were supposed to help with. He's alright with most of the stuff he's been asked to do, but it's started to be a bit too much. One of the people in charge, we'll call her Karen to simplify things, is just a straight up bitch. For one thing, she doesn't seem to care that my mom isn't a part of this volunteer group, Karen insists that she show up anyways since "all the volunteer's spouses help out. It's an unwritten rule" (no, it's not. The head of the volunteer group said as much). Whatever, my mom still shows up to help when she has the time.

What really started getting on my dad's nerves was her insistence that he show up to help out more often during the summer season. During the summer, my dad picks up a few shifts as a security guard in the community, so he often has to sit out in the sun for hours at a time (he's really not supposed to be doing this as he has high blood pressure and the heat stress can make that worse). Unfortunately, many of the events during this season are held outside in the sun. My dad's job coupled with him sitting out in the summer heat during these events has really taken a tole on his overall health. Although it ate away at him, he's just as hardheaded as I am and refuses to quit most things he commits to.

The breaking point, though, happened about a week ago. My mom had decided to enter our dog in one of the events that was taking place. It was a contest where some of the kids who live in the community vote on the cutest dog there. Only three dogs including ours actually showed up since the event wasn't advertised well. My dad wasn't asked to help with this event, so he was just there to make sure our dog didn't try to take my mom for a joyride around the park (she's still very puppy at 7 months, but she's super strong, so there's no way my mom would be able to hold onto her for long when she gets really excited). Out of the three dogs there, ours got third place, placing last among the other two contestants. That's fine, our puppy is part Pitbull and it really shows in her appearance. Even though everyone in my family knows that breed isn't actually aggressive, the stigma still stands and some people are pretty afraid of them due to their reputation. It wasn't until after the prizes were given and we were ready to head home that one of the kids there came up to my dad and our dog. He told my dad that he thought our puppy was the cutest and wanted her to win, but the "mean old lady" who was monitoring the event told all the voters that she couldn't win since my dad was a part of the volunteer group and it wouldn't be fair to the other contestants whose owners weren't.

That's right, Karen tried to rig the competition so that our puppy would lose. Now, did this mean our dog would have won if she didn't say anything? No. Like I said, she's part Pitbull and very few children wanted to approach her because of it. In my dad's eyes, however, it was the last straw. I'm personally not offended by THIS injustice. On the other hand, I am raving mad at some of the other shit she's done, including the things I mentioned above as well as recently wanting some kids who were selling lemonade within the community to stop since they were "taking away from a business at the bay" (whenever events happen at the bay during the summer, a local business sells food and drinks to the people there and shares the profit with her since she allows them to set up there). Those kids weren't hurting business, and the only reason they were selling lemonade in the first place was to help raise donations for another little kid in the community who has cancer. Honestly, what kind of bitch do you have to be to complain over that?!?
