Kolob Canyon, Zion National Park | Utah Beautiful scenic drive! Loved it much more than the well-known drive through Zion National Park, as it was considerably less crowded. I really wish we would have had the time to go hiking...Ā

Virgin River Canyon Campground, ArizonaĀ Ā The campground (google maps) is surrounded by desert rocks in multiple colors and the Virgin River is close by. No matter where you looked, no matter which spot you had on the campground, the view was magnificent. Even though itās near Zion National Park, there were many open spots and we didnāt have anybody parked nearby. But the best? Cheapest official campground on our whole road trip. Sadly no showers, but a wash in the sink did the job... (May 2015)
Virgin River Canyon Campground, ArizonaĀ By far one of the most surprising places on our road trip was this recreation area (google maps). We didnāt have it on our list - got there by accident. We had planned on driving further towards Zion National Park, but it had gotten late. So when we saw the sign of the campground we pulled off the I-50 and just stayed there. It got dark fairly soon, so we had to hurry up to cook in the light that was left. We then got to enjoy our wine under those beautiful stars. Ā It was our last night in Arizona for a long time.... What an awesome place to begin our road trip! (May 2015)
Virgin RiverĀ
The first day of our road trip we drove from Flagstaff to Las Vegas to get the camper-van. From there we continued northeast on the I-15 towards Utah.Ā
Our original plan was to reach Zion National Park, but we were later than we thought we would be, since we had to move out of our apartment in the morning.Ā We stopped at a supermarket on the way to stock up on food and beverages and just drove.Ā
The I-15 took us through Nevada and then a small part of the northwestern corner of Arizona. It joined the Virgin River, which had dug a deep and narrow canyon through a small mountain chain. It was an awesome foretaste of what was going to await us the next day.Ā
The picture was taken right after the street comes out of the canyon of the Virgin River, a few miles before St. Geroge, Utah.

San Francisco Peaks - around Flagstaff, AZ
The picture was taken on the way back to Flagstaff, seen from the US-89. If you look closely, you can see that the Humphrey has snow on its peak. No wonder - it's still snowing all the time in Flagstaff. Really sad I didn't get to hike that mountain!

Antelope Canyon - Page AZĀ
Before our last semester in Flagstaff was over, we did one last small road trip with our smll group of German girls. We drove to Page, AZ, and visited Antelope Canyon and the Horseshoe Bend.Ā
I am a bit undecided about the tours through the canyon. Itās absolutely stunning, no question. But for my āindependent traveler heartā it was a bit too much crowd... They set as many groups through the canyon as somehow possible and on the way back they hurried you through so you wouldnāt be in other peopleās pictures. The guide basically comes along to point out photo spots and move you forward... He did an awesome job though!

The cherry blossoms may be beautiful, but I would definitely not advise you to go to the festival during the weekend. It was just as beautiful on the Friday before, but there were several thousands of people less in the area around it.Ā

We started our roadtrip yesterday!
Iām still posting spring break pictures, so hereās what we did the last Saturday of our spring break: We joined two Wild SF Walking Tours.
Theyāre free and you pay what you think it was worth aftwewards. Itās an awesome concept, cause that way they really put a lot of effort in it. They sing, they tell history in stories, they tell jokes, theyāre dressed up. I loved it, and so did all the others who joined.
We first did the Castro tour and then the Mission tour. Theyāre after each other with a little break, so itās super easy to just wander from the Castro to the Mission in a few minutes and have a coffe at any awesome food place around the area.
