idk maybe this is a hot take but i don’t think you can just tell a story like the odyssey, one of the oldest known stories with such a rich history and storytelling tradition, by sacrificing important characterizations and plot points, in the name of making a different story whose merits all lie in the visual storytelling, film aesthetics, and special effects. the odyssey is historically an oral storytelling tradition and to completely simplify, dumb down, or completely cut out integral parts of the story and characterizations in order to make your “masterpiece film blockbuster” or whatever the fuck they’re calling it feels disingenuous to the heart of the odyssey as a story.
