in which the dad out of time is just not thriving

Then Glimmer gets to be powerful and terrifying, as is her right, and Bow faints prettily in her arms!

Without warning, the door behind them exploded outward. It flew clear through the window on the other side in a shower of glass, bits of pink twinkling with deceptive innocence between the rubble. Micah gasped as he turned towards what had been a doorway and saw a miniature goddess in a healer’s gown, glowing with power so bright he could only watch through a painful squint.

Angella had never looked like this, all fierceness and steel. This was a dread queen made of pure power, a woman who wouldn’t hesitate to do whatever it took to protect the people she cared about.

In that moment, Micah understood what his sister had been trying to say. That this was not Princess Glimmer, the little girl he had left behind. This was Queen Glimmer, the leader of the Great Rebellion.

And he didn’t actually know her at all. 

Glimmer flexed her fingers. Her hands sprang to life, crackling with pink sparkles, each one shining like the polished edge of a blade.

Pulling levers is one of life's easier activities. Hypothetically at least. Sometimes levers stick or they need a lot of actuation force or they have a locking mechanism that you break. This one was easy though.

Which turned out to be a problem for the princess, as it so happens.

"Ooh. What's this one do..."

Entrapta was wiring up the big fancy portal button when it occurred to her she didn't know what this particular lever actually does. She's never seen it used.

"Lever is not connected to any of the existing portal hardware. Seems to be connected to the pylons encircling the room. Curious. I thought those were decorative."

Fascinating.

She could wait for Hordak to come back and ask him what this particular lever actually does. He might be awhile though. Also what kind of scientist would she be if she didn't experiment for herself

"Initiating mystery lever test one!" The princess shouts to nobody as she reaches out and pulls it! Immediately the room lights up. The pylons spark to life. Red energy. A field is generated. "Oooooh. Faaascinaating. It appears that the pylons are generating some sort of field that-" suddenly she gasps. Gags. She can't get air.

Worse than that it's as if the air she can get has gone wrong. It forces her to collapse onto her knees. It's like there's something terrible filling her lungs. Something worse than nothingness.

She gasps, trying desperately to breath. Her analytical mind falling to the wayside as her animal brain begins to panic. No air. Bad air. She screams at herself to focus. To move. The lever. Disengage it.

Entrapta knows that's what she needs to do but her body doesn't want to move. It's not just suffocation. The air hurts. It hurts so much.

Tears begin to well up in her eyes as she tries to focus enough to control her hair, and failing that she tries to crawl her way back to the lever. She's too weak. It's sapping her strength.

Entrapta begins to fade. She doesn't want to fade. She's not ready to go. There's so much to learn.

She hears shouting. Muffled. The world goes black before she can discern what that is.

Then the world returns.

She's in a chair in the sanctum. Hordak's cloak is draped over her. Imp and Emily are both by her side.

Immediately she sees Hordak. He's disassembling the pylons.

Entrapta almost speaks up to stop him. It was an accident, leave your work up.

It’s Glimmer and Catra’s fault. The two most messy and unstable Etherians became Prime’s main information pool on what Etherian’s are like. He had the closest and longest contact with them before he went into chipping people. And let’s sprinkle in a bit of Hordak’s frustration of being stranded out in the boonies for three decades lol

Catra is like genuinely at her worst right before she gets beamed up, thank you Double Trouble for that. Like all her hopes and dreams were proven to be pointless and every last person she cared about deserted her. And she’s been trying to kill the woman of her dreams for like three years. The woman who still rejected her in her fantasy dreamworld. Shes also got hella Entrapta guilt eating her up that she’s had to just sweep under the rug to keep Hordak in line. Hordak, who, with his relationship to Entrapta, was probably a constant reminder that she wasn’t wanted by Adora. This is all on top of her existing Shadow Weaver damage, let’s not forget.

Up on the Velvet Glove, Catra had to relive finding out that climbing for power wasn’t doing her any favors but less in a “it’s lonely at the top” way but in a new “oh shit I am just a pawn” way. Hordak rubs things in again for her by rejecting her friendship but in less of a “You suck, Catra” way but in a new “I am hurting too much” way. Rejection isn’t new but like vulnerability of pain is, and then she had to watch it be completely be destroyed. She’s not used to being cornered like this and bends easy to Prime just staring her down in the purification scene.

Glimmer is so down in the depths of grieving the loss of her mother, which hardly gets addressed, that she let herself change as a person. She became a cutthroat warlord who nearly destroyed the planet. She fell in hard with Shadow Weaver because she filled the void, I think that’s probably such a big reason the goodness in her started bottoming out. She pushed away everyone who cared about her and she cared about. She has to sit with that guilt, pain, loss, loneliness all of it by herself.

Also where tf was Castaspella??? She should have seriously been there more for her niece instead of dipping after the coronation ffs I do NOT like that woman

On the Velvet Glove Gimmer is pretty much shoved into solitary confinement unless she gets to have another exploitative dinner date with Prime. She hasn’t processed shit. At the first tap of pressure from Prime she fully falls apart an tells him what he wants. Solitary confinement fucks people up so she would only have gotten worse as she stayed on Prime’s ship.

So it’s these two right here that Prime has weeks of close observation of along with Hordak’s memories. And friendly reminder that the field of psychology has plenty of supporting evidence that our memories aren’t very solid.

But first impressions are. Prime has his first impression of Etherians as addle-brained, uncultured, uneducated (remember that most of them had no clue the universe existed), simpletons. And then they piss him off. They get the better of him and like this had to break something in Prime.

I can’t decide for sure if his goal with Etheria is to immediately rapture all life or to simply possess the weapon. He says it will be the jewel of his empire at first but devolved to wanting to insta-fire it. Like, he’s got such a love for his image and empire that I find it kind of hard to believe that he would also set it on fire??? I have an easier time believing that he just got swept away in cognitive dissonance between his first impression of Etherians and actual Etherians who also were extremely EXTREMELY lucky.

So he went full nuclear after dropping the ball in an embarrassing way. Bc holy moly it’s less that Etherians were powerful, all ten of them that remained in the end, and more that Prime probably couldn’t admit that he had the wrong impression of who he was dealing with.
