fruits basket has been such a wild ride. by the first few episodes of the anime i thought it was just going to be some shojo / romance manga, but i stayed for the dynamic of the characters because that was so well made. and boy was i proven wrong - it covers generational trauma (everyone is “cursed”) , breaking from toxic family patterns, slowly learning to trust others, standing up for yourself, making healthy relationships outside the space of people you’ve always known (yuki x machi aaaaaaaa), friendships that ask for nothing in return, but also that not everything works out - not everything can be a happy lovey dovey experince in life. a lot of realtionships don’t get fixed and that is also the reality of life. i love how it balances it all. it truly is a slice of life genre of anime. 🥺🥺🥺
