Working #Koa is always a pleasure. It’s a very dense #hardwood and takes one hell of a polish. This is off the grinder with a padded 1200 belt. It won’t need much hand work other than cleaning up along the spine. This ones going to fun - just black and white. The zirconium bolsters up front will be jet black when finished. Check out the new up for grabs batch! This VPK has a single side micarta inlay. I made that piece last year as an experiment. I made a chunk of dark blue tissue paper micarta and left it exposed to the Florida sun long enough to build up that green crust on top. The idea was to replicate the age discoloration found on some old reclaimed phenolics. This was my favorite color and most dramatic of the effects. Im making a custom vpk with mammoth tooth scales. It’s also the first flipper I’ve made using bronze bearings. It’s almost as smooth as the ceramic ones, so I’ll chalk that one up as a win 🤞. This one was a one off experimental piece. It’s a general use style, but I wanted to focus on some new handle geometry for future kitchen blades. I was inspired by @dsn_knives and @thompsonknives for the shape and pinch grip fuller.
