Do you have any tips on how to draw robots and their parts? Or what you study to draw them?
There is two ways that I go about drawing robots
I often break characters into basic shapes and draw from those or use ”dorito”stick figure system to make sure chest is wide.
When taking inspiration for robot I look for different kinds of robots, creatures, knigths and it all depends on build of the robot if it’s fast or heavy duty or something inbetween middle
and level of detail is tricky one to balance and can be scary to do too much detail the robot will look like a mess and eyes will have hard time to focus where to look.
Most details I focus on chest region, head, joints, shoulder guards and a little bit on the leg and you can make more detail by hiding in it shadow or in silhouette I recommend looking at Munetaka Abe’s art on gundam and transformers how he creates and hides detail in simplicity.
And I often build characters around their abilities and how does the character have spikes, how they work, does pipes let out steam, does the thing change to gun or does turbines help character go faster than anything else and I recommend looking into Masami Ōbari’s mecha art for exaggerating poses and features on robots.
Spamton neo I mostly take inspirations
Nausicaä god: warrior for the feel of power so great that it will collapse on himself.
Laputa robots: clumsiness and not caring about itself or about what happens to environment surrounding them.
Digimon Diaboromon: Virus in computer that sends alot of emails and creepiness also loose feeling of the limbs even if neo has more solid arms.
The legend of the spyro Golem: Grand mass of hostile being and the hunched positon for Neo.
Robocop: For the connection from the body to shoulders and guard padding for shoulders.
Carbonfiber: That surrounds upper body and what the hair is most likely made of.
But rest of the detail is added in mind how the body would bend and move while trying to balance that it wouldn't take off from Spamton Neo’s original desing.
It is how I work still it is good to build your own workflow by taking pieces that works for you because my way of doing things might not work for you same way as it works for me. I encourage you to try and if you fail try another way drawing is hard your limit is only imagination. ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧
