bastos!

Had the rare opportunity to hangout with just my two brothers. Ended up having a pretty good time getting dinner then hitting the blackjack tables. I don’t talk to edwin a whole lot, but I should since his memory is like an elephant’s and vince’s is damaged from being in the military and having to go to war. I got more details of our childhood and what it was like those first few years after migrating to the US. I knew we grew up very poor and I thought the apartment I grew up in was on the lower spectrum of how poor we were. I was wrong. I didn’t realize that we were actually homeless, or at least transient, for about two years. We started off living with my aunt (that, I did already know), but I guess she could only accommodate a family of six for so long. This is where the limbo started before we actually moved into the apartment I called home for about ten years. I’m just glad I was too young to be impacted by having to bounce between living room to living room in the homes of strangers. Since there is a big gap between me and my older siblings, they actually had to still get up every day and walk themselves to elementary school while we were in this transient stage. My brother even told me that because we were moving around so much, he got lost one day trying to walk back from school and had no idea where he was. Again, I’m grateful that I was too young to acknowledge the feelings of insecurity and confusion that comes with not having a home. This explains a lot when it comes to things I do remember from my childhood, and by things I mean the events that normally serve as a plot on those after school special shows.
