Kaczynski, Yousef, and McVeigh were all allotted a sliver of time for daily exercise, which the three shared with each other for a time. The mesh walls of their exercise space allowed for easier communication, although they also could speak through raising their voices in their cells. In his letters to his penpals outside of prison, Kaczynski expressed that he had both Yousef and McVeigh’s explicit consent to share information about their friendships. He also expressed admiration for both men, regarding them as intelligent and sociable while also denouncing their actions.

The three men seemed to also hold conversations on a variety of subjects. McVeigh and Yousef discussed politics intensely while Kaczynski spoke to McVeigh about nature and survivalism. McVeigh reportedly admired Yousef’s defiance of the US government and Kaczynski alleged that Yousef apparently had a level of belief in astrology. It also appears as though Kaczynski would discuss the letters he received with the others. Furthermore, Kaczynski spoke fondly of McVeigh and stated him to be misinterpreted by the media and also to be considerate of others.

At one point, Kaczynski even implored two of his penpals to send McVeigh a copy of a book and a subscription to the Alternative Press Review, implying the two kept in touch after McVeigh was relocated from ADX Florence. (He also later said that McVeigh was also interested in Into the Wild)

He also mentioned that Yousef frequently attempted to covert him to Islam, similar to how Yousef had attempted with McVeigh.
