“Clothes are like good meal, a good movie, great pieces of music”.Today was a memorable day as we had fashion show in our college by second year fashion communication students, I enjoyed modelling in three sequences namely silhouette, rococo,  and the final designer sequence. I also helped out the stylists with their garments, like in rococco to make it look more grand. If you were their, you would have probably enjoyed the the show.

Givenchy,  Iconic French fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy is known for his elegant haute couture designs and years-long professional relationship with Audrey Hepburn. After taking inspiration from his Fall/Winter’ 17 collection me and my friend(Jayati Srivastav) decided to style each other.  Givenchy’s midnight blue single- or double-breasted tailoring, with oversize, contrasting buttons, made a convincing case; a theme which circled back for evening.

We all happened, almost everyday, to wear something stylish and comfortable, at the same time, that allows us to face our daily tasks, with elegance and practicality. As women, they are often so busy that they don't even have the time to change clothes to have a drink with our friends, and they all know how tight-fitting clothing and high-heeled shoes may be pesky after a work day. But now they can stop worring about it: the answer to our problems has come and is: Boyish! Today I have styled my friend : Niharika Srivastava and designed a magazine cover for the same showing the power look for the new rising business woman.

Like Christian Dior, McQueen has had a huge impact on the fashion industry and created wild buzz with his designs. Although Dior had a much more classic and feminine style and McQueen’s designs were way more over the top, theatrical and edgy, these were the designs that made heads turn. McQueen’s shows become events that only the cream of the crop of the fashion industry and Hollywood could attend, and were so theatrical and entertaining they were almost like theatre themselves. Dior drew inspiration from ladylike images like flowers and beautiful places, while McQueen found his inspiration to be the complete opposite of that. Christian Dior’s shows are more traditional while McQueen’s are out of the ordinary spectacles but I think the greatest similarity between the two designers is that they dared to be different. While many designers fear of stepping outside of the box, Dior and McQueen did just that and were bold enough to do something no one else had thought of in their collections. Alexander McQueen was born March 16, 1969, and like Christian Dior was born into a large family, his being of 6 children. Unlike Dior though, McQueen did not have a wealthy upbringing, as his father was a cab driver and his other a teacher. Alexander McQueen, whose real name is actually Lee Alexander McQueen, knew that he wanted to pursue a career in fashion design.  Alexander McQueen, however is someone I have lived to see develop and become one of the greatest designers of all time. Although these two designers differ in their style and aesthetic, there is always more than meets the eye and there are many similarities between these two visionaries.  Known for the emotional power and sometimes disturbing images, McQueen’s shows soon showed at Paris Fashion Week instead of London. Some of his shows include inspiration from mental asylums, Lord of The Flies, dark carnivals and post-apocalyptic predictions. He admits that his shows are his own living nightmares, and it’s apparent after seeing some of his dark looks. This is a major difference between Dior and McQueen.  No matter how different the two designers may be, they both were out of the ordinary for their time and that is what will make their names legendary and iconic forever.  

Today I have styled myself in a punk rock fashion. Here you can see the the use of metal chains and wrist band with liberty spikes.  Punk fashion varies widely, ranging from Vivienne Westwood designs to styles modeled on bands like The Exploited to the dressed-down look of North American hardcore. The distinct social dress of other subcultures and art movements, including glam rock, skinheads, rude boys, greasers, and mods have influenced punk fashion.

Haute couture is totally a different world where they call themselves artists instead of designers because anything that you get out of it is a not just another fashion show stuff, but a piece of art. You may ask, some of the designs seen on the catwalk are completely unwearable, in fact they often look like artistic constructions that are totally impracticable and who would consider such flamboyance as a tasteful form of wearable expression? You have completely missed the point. The haute couture pieces serve as wearable forms of art. They are the catalyst to the entire fashion industry in terms of the source of inspiration that filters downstream. Take yourself back to the scene in The Devil Wears Prada where Miranda Priestly (editor at high fashion editorial Runway) so unabashedly corrects Andrea’s misunderstanding that her low quality blue cerulean jumper was a choice she made to show her lack of care and disregard to fashion and ultimately a choice she has made for herself. As Miranda succinctly corrects her (paraphrased) that blue cerulean was first featured in 2002 by Oscar de la Renta in a collection of gowns, it then filtered to Yves Saint Laurent as military jackets, and then quickly to 8 other designers, the department stores and then a clearance bin at some low end store on the high street. Hi folks, today I styled myself in street style fashion. If you give it a glance, you will observe silhouette is the most predominant feature here which is inspired from Bokero silhouette.

This magazine subscription is one I look forward to every month. I find GQ a premier style magazine for the modern male metrosexual, just hit rock bottom. The magazine is full of surprises, that you will come across as you flip through the pages like some great fashion tips, although some veer to the more hipster than classic style and sometimes offers engaging, thoughtful articles about current events. What I like the most about the magazine is they make use of great photography with relevant content and even advertisements. Their target readers are 76% willing to pay more for quality products and 48% ready to pay extra for desired brand. The seasonal guides are helpful for men who want a head start on fashion trends. Food, drinks, tech, & more are all also included alongside GQ's fashion core. The fashion features and celebrity interviews are beyond compare. I'm not a big sports fan but they have a ton of coverage with star athletes and their lives, actors and musicians. I have skimmed through this magazine before a while back and wanted to adopt a few fashion trend for myself like in this GQ magazine cover of Ryan Gosling inspired me to style myself in a similar fashion for my upcoming post. Stay tuned to my blog to know more about fashion basics and upcoming trends. Finally, GQ generally has one article a month that I would describe as investigative journalism, and these articles can't be missed! All in all, GQ is an essential for any magazine rack.  

While the sheath conjures up visions of the 1950’s and 60’s, this style has been around for much longer- thousands of years longer.They come in almost every fabric and color, and can easily transition from the office to after-work cocktails. The sheath’s elegance and simplicity make it perfect for any woman’s wardrobe.

Fashion is something which changes frequently depending on various factors like climate, location, culture, trends, etc. Fashion is not a style. Fashion does not have to be worn casually, nor outside the runway. Fashion is fit for all sizes for all people of all ages. Fashion is an art of personal self-expression, not an excuse to be pretty, popular and charismatic. Fashion can change rapidly over a period of time depending on its adaptation by the mases, some are short-lived fashion known as FAD's. Fashion is not something that exist in dresses only, fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.
