Thereâs no better way to beat the winter blues than getting out in the fresh air and reminding yourself that the world doesnât come to an end when the clocks go forward. So get your wellies on, head to one of these beautiful locations, and kick up the leaves. Summer will be back next year, but autumn is a fleeting beauty. - See more at: http://www.perfectstays.co.uk/blog/top-5-autumn-woodland-walks/#sthash.AfzFyaC4.dpuf

The trend, that has been reported on by many publications including The Times, The Guardian,Huffington Post and The Telegraph in the last year, seems to be traceable back to some popular holiday home listing sites, that serve as an advertisement platform for individual owners, rather than as an agency.
Scams appear to be taking place in the form of fake listings being created â either completely from scratch, or by directly copying content and images from an existing, legitimate website â or, more disconcertingly, via hacking and intercepting ownersâ email addresses.
Think Christmas, think Christmas tree (obviously), snow, reindeer, Santa, roast turkey, mince pies, maybe chestnuts and cold hands wrapped around warming cups of mulled wine. Amongst a multitude of other warm, fuzzy festive icons that we identify with Christmas, mulled wine is definitely up there as the go-to Christmas tipple.
But for centuries a rival spice-based hot beverage was, and still is, the regaling drink of choice over the Christmas period. A drink steeped in cultural meaning, traditional ceremony and a great deal of cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon â weâre talking about wassail, or mulled cider.
On a hazy summerâs day at Sennen Cove â and they do happen â youâd be forgiven for thinking, for just one brief moment, that you had somehow been magically transported to the temperate climes of the Mediterranean.
This time of year is no different, except for the temperature of course. A hugely popular destination for tourists and locals, with a mile of golden sand and clear blue waters, Sennen Cove becomes an unlikely destination for hundreds of brave (or crazy) people...http://bit.ly/1hnrd7vÂ

The Watermill â A Unique Holiday Home on Your Own Private Estate
Before the industrial revolution, and before the invention of steam power, watermills were used in almost every industry that required any motive power, usually flour grinding, textile production or mining. At the height of their use, there were over 10,000 water wheels across the UK, although few remain. This beautiful watermill is over 250 years old, and is one of those few. Fewer still can be rented out for a luxury holiday, which we think makes our watermill all-the-more wonderful!
Both The Watermill and Home Farm are located on 100 acres of the Whitehay Estate, and have been lovingly and sensitively restored by the owners. Whilst enjoying all of the modern facilities, such as underfloor heating and beautifully fitted bespoke kitchens, both properties retain their traditional charm perfectly. Both properties can be rented out individually or together for larger parties.
The Whitehay Estate, which was once home to environmentalist, philosopher and founder of The Ecologist magazine Teddy Goldsmith, is the perfect location for a peaceful romantic retreat or honeymoon. Offering a plethora of idyllic woodland walks amongst wild orchards and along the River Ruthern, croquet and tennis on the all-weather court, this rural retreat also benefits from being a short car journey from both the north and south coasts of Cornwall. The world â or at least Cornwall â really is your oyster.
The most exciting event in Britainâs culinary calendar, people all over the country are set to take up their rolling pins and whisks, and try their hand at creating one of our nationâs favourite treats.
A popular choice for pastry fans is the Cornish pasty. A delicious blend of beef, potatoes and vegetables, wrapped in golden shortcrust, the Cornish pasty inspires devotion and love like no other baked good.
Once a staple of Cornish tin miners, the pasty has spread throughout Britain. The ingredient list is fiercely contested â in 2011, the Cornish Pasty Association even sought Protected Geographical Indication.
We at Perfect Stays are getting into the spirit of Baking Week. As proud connoisseurs of our regionâs most celebrated dish, we have created a guide to making the perfect Cornish pasty.
Roll up your sleeves, flour down a surface, and join us in making Cornwallâs best-loved dish.

A unique twist on the usual fireworks night celebrations, the âFestival of Lanternsâ, now in its 5th year, attracts over 700 people. Homemade lanterns of all shapes and sizes will light up this corner of north Cornwall, from jam jars and pumpkins to Chinese paper lanterns. Join in the procession from Treknow to The Mill House where bushes and hedgerows will be lit up in ornate illumination. Guests can enjoy the beautiful lanterns, BBQ, hog roast, mulled wine and live music before the grand finale firework display begins at 7:00pm. As well as the food being laid on especially for the evening, The Mill House Inn will be serving up its usual fare of locally sourced cuisine. Make a holiday of it and stay just down the road at The Yellow Cottage.Â
Polperro Harbour â 2nd November
Picturesque Polperro will once again host their incredibly popular Guy Fawkes celebrations. The fireworks will sit against the backdrop of Peak Rock and light up the harbour, whilst the bonfire will be lit on the beach. A childrenâs Guy Fawkes competition will be taking place by the fish market at 7:00pm, but make sure you get there early to enjoy the delicious local food and BBQ and to get a good viewing spot!
Falmouth Cricket Club â 5th November
Famed for hosting the biggest annual fireworks event display every year, the Falmouth Cricket Club is organised by Falmouth Firefighters and saw ÂŁ6,500 worth of explosives rocket into the sky last year. Complete with fire-eaters, fairground rides and refreshments, this is a definite must-see if youâre in the area. Stay nearby at The Emerald. Â
Penzance Magpies Football Ground â 5th November
The annual charity fireworks display organised by the Penzance Rotary Club will be taking place at the AFC grounds on Tuesday 5th November. Onlookers can enjoy live music by the Samba Celtica Band and fill up on hog roast before the main event kicks off at 7:30pm. All money raised goes to the Rotaryâs chosen charity.
Mousehole Harbour South Pier â 5th November
Taking place with the picturesque harbour of Mousehole as the backdrop, the Mousehole harbour fireworks are taking place by kind permission of the Mousehole Harbour Commissioners. With celebrations due to start at approximately 7:30pm, the fireworks display sees the start of a busy season for the popular harbour village, whoâs famed Mousehole Christmas Lights are celebrating their 50th year on 14th December. Live like a local overlooking Mousehole at Porth Enys House.
Have fun and stay safe wherever you enjoy the fireworks this year, and make sure you take plenty of photographs.

Whitehay Charity Duck Race Goes Down A Storm â Quite Literally
Posted by Rebecca Bennett on October 8, 2013
Earlier on this summer, the Perfect Stays team had the pleasure of attending a charity duck race, held on the immense Whitehay Estate in Withiel â home to both our Home Farm and The Watermill exclusive holiday properties.
For those looking to really immerse themselves into Cornish life, we would highly recommend attending this annual event. Watching 600 yellow ducks race down the River Ruthern on a Friday night is an increasingly popular family orientated event, which takes place every year on the first Friday in August (bar next year when it will be held on the second Friday!). Organised each year by Judy Douglas-Boyd and Simon Skelding, all proceeds go to St Clements Church in Withiel â with this year raising an impressive ÂŁ1700.
Judy and Simonâs duck race attracts visitors from all around, and this year was no different. After a gloriously sunny day, around 6:00 pm, the heavens decided to open and treat us to a spectacular thunder storm. This did not deter the crowds, however, as an impressive gathering of families, resplendent in wellies and waterproofs, came together in the picturesque woodlands of the Whitehay Estate to enjoy the celebrations â local ale in one hand and a home made burger from the local butchers â T H Lobb, in the other. Glasses were never empty for long, stomachs were soon full and the sun soon parted through the clouds.
As well as the main event, guests could purchase raffle tickets and children were awarded prizes for the best duck race hat. After selling an impressive 600 yellow ducks, these were then launched from the small bridge and proceeded to charge down river, much to the delight of all the children. Donning wetsuits, children and adults alike joined in the race, chasing ducks and rescuing the odd one that managed to wander off and get lost amongst the reeds. The wiling volunteers then had the great task of fishing all ducks out of the river, which seemed to delight the children just as much as the actual race, armed with fishing nets at the ready in a bid to rescue the most ducks.
When all ducks were safely rescued from the river, the eagerly anticipating winners were announced, with a generous cash prize of ÂŁ100 awarded for first place. The evening continued to buzz on merrily until people slowly made their way back home â although guests staying at The Watermill or Home Farm wouldnât have far to go.
Short stays at The Watermill from £500, Home Farm £800. Week stays at The Watermill from £800, Home Farm £1100.

This summer has been incredibly busy, with the record breaking weather that July treated us all to, and a number of exciting new luxury properties added to our growing portfolio that we havenât yet had a chance to shout about.
So without further ado we introduce the wonderful Home Farm, located on the enviable 100 acre Whitehay Estate, near Wadebridge. Added in August, this is an incredible rural retreat, quite different form our usual coastal holiday homes. But, upon visiting Home Farm, and its sister property The Watermill, we fell in love and decided to branch out (literally) into this luxury countryside escape.
With its own tennis court, croquet lawn, wild orchards, pond and miles of woodland trails, we knew there was something unique about this property. Particularly appealing is the option to cut yourself off from the world and indulge in some serious relaxation, without being more than 10 minutes from nearby Wadebridge and a car ride to the north coast of Cornwall.
The summer was kind to us and granted us a gloriously sunny day to photograph Home Farm and its immaculate and blossoming gardens, really allowing us to capture this traditional Cornish farmhouse in its full glory amongst the breath-taking landscape.
Sleeping up to 6 guests, this traditional holiday cottage has retained its original wood beams and farmhouse appeal whilst incorporating a fabulous contemporary open plan kitchen and dining room that opens out onto the barbecue terrace and gardens. The house is punctuated throughout with classic French and English pieces of furniture, which is then perfectly contrasted with modern minimalistic pieces, such as the fabulous designer Philippe Starck dining chairs.
Boasting itâs very own Home Cinema room with 126â drop down screen and Nintendo Wii, located in the neighbouring converted barn, Home Farm can be rented in addition to The Watermill. Just a 10 minute stroll away, The Watermill can sleep up to 4 guests and, together with Home Farm, is perfect for a group retreat and family holiday.
Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ for regular updates about our luxury self-catering properties in and around Cornwall, Somerset, Yorkshire and Europe. And join us on Pinterestwhere weâre sharing our favourite pictures.

Itâs a Dogâs Life | Dog Holidayâs in Rock, Cornwall
Posted by by Rebecca Bennett on August 14, 2013
Here at Perfect Stays, we know how important our guestâs dogs are to them, particularly when it comes to holidays. We also know how frustrating and time consuming it can be to find accommodation, places to eat and dog friendly days out once youâve arrived. Which is why we thought weâd do some of the leg work for you starting with Rock in Cornwall.
Where to Stay
One of our best dog friendly holiday homes in Rock is the lovely Rosemain. A renovated detached cottage that sleeps up to 10 people, located on the highly coveted Rock Road, Rosemain enjoys a large patio and barbecue area and boasts 3 acres of fields to the rear â perfect for our four legged friends to have a good run around.
Rock Beach: Image â John Adams
From Rosemain, Rock Beach is a pleasant 20 minute stroll away on the Camel River facing, picturesque Padstow. Stretch your legs a little further and you can catch the Water Taxi over to Padstow for a bite to eat.
If you enjoy a longer walk, Daymer Bay stretches round the corner from Rock Beach and is also a dog friendly beach with a stretching expanse of golden sand. Alternatively, jump in the car and youâll be there in no time.
Eating Out
There are a number of dog friendly pubs, restaurants and cafes in and around the Rock area, including the highly recommended Rock Inn where well-behaved dogs are welcome in the garden and patio. Along this same road is the incredibly popular No. 1 Rock Road, where dogs are welcome on the terrace.
If youâre staying in Rock, you have to hop on the water taxi to Padstow where youâll enjoy a stroll around the breath taking harbour and indulge in some proper Cornish finish and chips.
Day Trips
Pencarrow House by Ripplestone Garden
No one wants to have to leave their poor dog in the car when going on a trip out for the day, particularly in the summer. And you donât have to if you visit Pencarrow House and Gardens â loud and proud members of The Kennel Club âOpen For Dogsâ campaign. Dogs are kindly asked to be kept on a lead in the immediate surroundings of the house and cafĂŠ, but are actively encourage to be let off the lead in the extensive gardens and woodlands on the estate.
Cycling the Camel Trail is an absolute must-do, and you can take your furry friend along too when you hire with Bridge Bike Hire, who can provide the most adorable Dog Trailers.
Walks
The best dog walk in the area is the Sir John Betjeman Coastal Walk starting out in Rock Quarry car park. This is a nice and easy 3.7 mile circular coastal walk that affords beautiful scenery and takes you round to dog friendly Daymer Bay.
If, heaven forbid, you do need to leave your dog for an afternoon or evening, our knowledgeable Concierge Team at Perfect Stays will be more than happy to recommend some highly reliable dog sitters. To view more of our dog friendly luxury self-catering house visit the Perfect Stays website. Weâd love to see your photos of your dogs enjoying themselves on holiday: share with us on Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

But, all of this carefully acquired knowledge is no good if we canât shout about it. Which is why weâre excited to introduce our shiny new blog so that we can share all of our knowledge, secrets and love for our luxury holiday locations and properties.

The sun has finally decided to show its face and it's set to be a scorching July (touch wood). This is all well and good, but when you're sat in an office all day long this can be pretty heart breaking, especially if you work from home - the temptation to sack off work and sneak off to the beach can be a nemesis to overcome.
We recently discovered the wonderful world of Polyvore, which until just now I thought was just for clothing, but you can put together rooms and interiors at the click of a mouse button! So, I had a little play around today with some summer home office ideas that will brighten up your work space and hopefully keep you focused whilst still getting that summery buzz. I had a scour through our collection of home accessories and furniture and daydreamed about my ideal office (my birthday is in September if you're wondering - Pink and Blue Flower Hand Painted Canvas please!), as well as borrowing some bits and pieces from the Polyvore users' inventory. Not bad for a first attempt eh?!
If you haven't already stumbled across Polyvore, check it out, it's so much fun and the only limitation is your imagination! Share your boards with us on Facebook, Twitter or Google+ and follow our Pinterest for more eclectic interior design inspiration.

One of the biggest names in textile crafts, Anchor is a household favourite amongst cross stitchers, embroiderers and needle pointers alike. But, as well-known as this popular brand of kits and threads is, there is little out there on the world wide wonder web about this much-loved brand.  We stock over 500 of Anchorâs cross stitch kits, not to mention theirneedlepoint tapestry kits, yet we couldnât have told you much about them either. So, after much researching (and many cups of tea) I found out some pretty interesting stuff about this textile giant.
The Anchor brand is part of something far bigger than I could have anticipated. One of many household names that are all produced and managed under the umbrella company of Coatsâ a huge worldwide company of textile brands founded 250 years ago and spanning 67 countries.

In 1995 the widely popular Rowan yarns joined the already gigantic craft corporation of Coats Crafts adding the cherry on top of the proverbial cake. Now based in Darlington, Coats Crafts supplies cross stitch and needlepoint kits, yarns, threads, craft accessories, haberdashery and pretty much all crafty goodness to the UK and rest of the world.
So now you know.
Coats Crafts has rich tapestry of history, with an abundance of prolific businesses named above, each with their own tales to tell. To find out more visit Coats Craftsâ History page.
