“The Wild Cards” are the crew of a sorta. Space pirate ship. That travels through different worlds doing random stuff that may or may not be getting them closer to the mysterious goals of their leader, who is that creepypasta hat figure.

In this setting “space” is sort of regular outer space, but not exactly, because it’s also the connective tissue between different worlds that all come from their own universes (spiderverse style, in that many of them are different genres and artstyles and such). A world will be doing its own thing until the barrier pops between it and the multiverse, at which point they now have to deal with all that. From an outside perspective, newly appearing worlds are surrounded by sorta bubble-like membranes. You can technically get into them at this point, but it’s considered poor form to do so (messes with the planned first contact strategies, and can pop the “bubble” early which isn’t good for the world) and is thus illegal.

For the first establishing comic the crew (everyone else in this lineup) runs into Turquoise Guy on his planet, currently un-popped and unaware of the multiverse, where he is engaged in being an edgy YA dystopia protagonist. Due to them being there illegally they take him onto their ship as a prisoner, and due to a series of Circumstances they’re forced to flee the planet with him still on there. Now he’s a fairly unwilling member of the team.

This is Vivian and I love her very much. She’s an inventor originally from a steampunk-western-mashup sorta world, now in a spaceship travelling the multiverse with various genres of weirdos. I’ll take suggestions on anything with her design but im mostly sending this because I am struggling with her hair. Bam take this:

So basically I’ve been veering back and forth between using twists or braids or locs to get the shape I envisioned since I’m pretty sure all of them could work structure-wise. On the left side of these two pictures (it’s just coloured and uncoloured versions of the same thing in case it’s easier to see) is a more detailed attempt at twists. On the right side I was trying to have an angular and quicker-to-draw version (relevant cause she’s going to be a comic character and she’ll appear a lot so. Time-saving is good), but I’m not convinced it still reads as twists? If it doesn’t, does it look like locs?

Here’s a version with a zigzag braid sort of pattern instead. Which may or may not change anything I’m not sure, but it does have a sorta cool effect. Essentially I’d like advice on which style to choose, or suggestions for a different one if all three have issues.

I also have a second thing I’m trying to work out, which is how her goggles would stay on her head. In the chibi drawing they’re just sort of on there, but I’m thinking it would be really hard to settle them cause of the bumps. If so, any ideas for solutions (what I’ve thought of thus far are having them far forward on her forehead, having them hang around her neck, and having them sorta float since a lot of her tech involves magnetism anyways)?

1) I personally prefer the style on the left, with the twists. The right side looks like you attempted locs and braids at the same time; I probably wouldn't do that zigzag if you were going for locs, and I'd complete the zigzag if you're going for braids. I have a link in my syllabus on that.
