I think the short answer for why there were regretful Nader voters but not regretful '16 or '24 Stein voters or anti-voters is online radicalization tbh. Back in 2000, you didn't have the entire internet constantly blasting "Dems suck shit" in your face for years on end, or an online community of self-righteous assholes constantly reassuring you that your indefensible, immoral decision on Election Day was akshewally radically progressive praxis and that you're a poor little meow meow who couldn't ever do anything wrong. It's just a daily echo chamber where people can be insulated from the consequences of their bad choices to a certain extent and coddled that they were sooooo right and everyone else is just a filthy [insert leftist buzzwords here] for pointing to the blood on their hands. Relatedly, you could say Republicans sucked in 2000 without all the cool kids immediately feeling the need to reassure everyone they still thought Democrats were Cringe, too. The culture was just different back then, and current, modern internet culture dictates that Republicans aren’t great but they’re a force of nature who can’t really be held accountable, but Democrats are the ultimate force of Cringe and evil in the world who must be taken down at all costs and you’re the ultimate genocidal cringe lord if you voice any support for them in any way. I also think internet echo chambers encourage people to double down and never admit they were wrong across the political spectrum
