I was just wondering why you don't like Melchritz? Like, I don't mean this in a rude way Im just very curious!
Hi! Thank you for asking this doesnât come off as rude itâs understandable to want to know why.
So firstly, Iâm gonna explain that I think Melchritz is a legitimate ship. In fact itâs essentially canon in the play. Thereâs this whole metaphor of Moritz identifying with the Headless Queen who is given a head by a king whose heads were always arguing and when she gets his head they always kiss and are at peace. And Moritz claims he wants someone to complete him. Meanwhile you have Melchior who is at war with himself and whose name LITERALLY means ârulerâ (it comes from the Hebrew word Melech for king). So Wedekind kind of lays it on thick. And at the end Melchior calls his time with Moritz the best in his life and Moritz basically just talks about Melchior when heâs gonna kill himself and asks him to touch him and like I can go on but itâs really fucking canon. Like Moritz is IN LOVE with Melchior in the play (and musical as well but itâs less textual more subtext) and by the end Melchior realizes he may have been as well.
However, I find the dynamic super toxic. Firstly, I think that Melchior ultimately ignores Moritz and his needs and pushes things on Moritz that he may not have been ready for. And Melchior is so wrapped up in himself that he canât really give Moritz any attention and help which Moritz DESPERATELY NEEDS. In addition Melchior has a sort of intellectual bond with Wendla that he isnât capable of having with Moritz. Wendla challenges him and debates him and he respects her in a weird twisted way that he just doesnât with Moritz. (Not saying Melchior/Wendla is a good ship or anything healthy AT ALL but the chemistry is there more). Moritz admires him way too much and is just too obsessed with Melchior like the scales arenât even. Moritz thinks very highly of Melchior and Melchior really doesnât think of Moritz as anything but inferior.Â
But my major issue with the ship is that itâs essentially between a r*pist and a boy terrified of sex. Like in my personal opinion thatâs really messed up. Moritz in both the play and the musical is so scared of sex and all pertaining to it. Heâs intrigued yes, he wants to have it, but it scares him a lot. And heâs not ready to have sex like even Moritz knows he isnât emotionally ready for sex. Meanwhile Melchior is a hypersexual person who wants sex desperately. He literally has a line in the play that says âI donât want anything I havenât had to fight forâ and the manipulative behavior he exhibits in the hayloft, the âwhy because itâs sinful?â dialogue and making Wendla doubt herself and her choices are things he could totally use with Moritz and would be just as damaging. In addition, in the play Moritz basically claims he wants to be r*ped and dominated like with Melchiorâs âI donât want something I havenât had to fight forâ stuff thatâs just not a good mix.
TLDR, I canât see how it could be healthy for Moritz but also for Melchior and Melchior would manipulate him and get him to do things he didnât want to. Thatâs just my opinion though and youâre free to ship what you want! Donât want to cause discourse or anything!

What Comes Next?: Hamilton to be Eligible at the 2017 Tonys
a shadow passed, a shadow passed
Hi Morgana, I'm wondering if you could answer some things for me. So all states in the US require you to be atleast 21 years old to be able to purchase alcohol, and while some states also require you to be 21 to drink, a lot of states don't have a drinking age. I wanted to ask you, what state are you from and what is their drinking law? Is there social pressure at a certain age to drink? At about what age do parents let their kids drink at home? And out? (1/2)
I know it varies by parents obviously, but like in general, in your experience and your friends experiences, what's it like? Also, what kinds of alcohol do you drink if you're drinking while being under 21? Just beer? I'm very curious because I come from a country where the age to purchase alcohol is 18 (though if you look old enough a lot of places don't card) and there's no set age for drinking (2/2)
Weird question, also late reply :0. but in america you canât drink or buy alcohol until youâre 21. Exceptions are for religious purposes. Iâm not sure if itâs entirely illegal, but parents sometimes let older kids taste or drink alcohol under their supervision but unless they get super wasted, the law isnât gonna care. Itâs illegal for them to serve alcohol to other underage minors and can get in trouble for hosting a teen party with alcohol. Also, restaurants canât let minors have alcohol or else they can lose their liquor license. A lot of teens do drink at parties though (itâs illegal). I think this applies to all of America? But maybe individual states have slight variations.
Figured Tumblr might find this interesting.
I was in NYC last week and we met this guy outside Trinity Church. What a coincidence! And even though he was really busy, he took a moment to say hi to my sister who is a HUGE fan :P Very nice guy, complimented her Hamilton shirt and everything.
