Welcome to the Berlermo gift exchange event 2022. If you sign up to receive a gift, you agree to make one as well and post it on AO3. You also agree to comment on the gift you receive.

Schedule:

-     You have until November 26 to sign up and send your prompt. No prompts will be accepted after that.

-     You will receive an AO3 username and their prompt on November 27.

-     All gifts have to be posted on December 23 in your time zone.

Rules:

-     The gift has to be about BERLERMO

-     The gift can be a FIC (minimum 1’000 words) or ART. It has to be new, original, and fulfill the prompt

-     DON’T reveal your identity to your partner before December 23!

-     DON’T change your AO3 username before December 23!

-     Inform me ASAP if further participation in this event isn’t possible for you anymore

-     Post your gift on December 23 on AO3:

- Gift it to the AO3 username I send you

- Add the tag: Berlermo Secret Santa

- Add the work to the collection: BerlermoSecretSanta2022

1.   Your username on AO3

2.   A maximal 10 word prompt for your Santa

3.   Are you willing to receive/write/draw smut (YES/NO)

You will hear from me twice: 1. I will confirm your sign up and 2. send you an AO3 username and their prompt on November 27 that you have to fulfill and post on December 23.

Okay so I decided to use some of my non-writing expertise to have a look at the Berlin/Palermo tag on AO3.

Pre-requisites: the data was pulled on May 26th around noon CET, only for the tag "Berlin | Andrés de Fonollosa/Palermo | Martín Berrote" ( slash, not ampersand). The dates AO3 gives me on this view are the last date those fics were updated, it's not their initial posting date, which will skew some of the data I have on... dates. But it's what AO3 has available in this view, so---

Without further ado - here is what I could find in a couple of hours!

There are currently 969 fics posted under this tag, totalling 7,378,146 words. Out of the posted fics, 167 were gifted to others, so ~17%. We're generous and there's lots of love going around! <3

We are not as horny a fandom as I thought, with only 19% of fics being rated Explicit. ...and 20% Mature so, well.

When it comes to the languages the fics were written in, English is still the dominant language, with 85% of all posted fics:

Some of us have been very busy indeed! There are 240 writers for this tag, and here is the top 20 of them by number of fics (in this particular tag, just a reminder)

Now, to the yearly data, which has some ugly graphs. I'll put them under a cut with some closing words, but the conclusions first:

first fic in the tag was posted on 21 Jul 2019, by user O meu país é o que o mar não quer (HannibalCatharsis)

2020 and the pandemic/lockdown saw the highest number of Berlermo fics being posted, the most active period being between the beginning of April up until mid-August; it was a stellar year for Berlermo both in number of fics and (obvs) in the daily average of fics posted

2021 was-- strange, since I expected to find an increase in posted fics around the time part 1 and 2 aired but there's nothing noticeable (prob because of the post date/last updated date discrepancy)

still 2021, you can see the impact of Berlermo Secret Santa - 24 fics posted on Dec 23rd - and a little bit of something towards the end of August with Berlermo AUgust

2022 so far has been a slow year, with a surge of fics around the vernal equinox with Berlermo Firsts

In honor of the lesser-known side of Eid, which is the start of blockbuster season, we propose - Berlermo Blockbuster week 2022! (Technically a day, but we all take it as a whole week or at least 4 days!)

All the movie tropes you know and love (or maybe you don't) but as vehicles for our favorite ship. A disaster movie where no one listens to the scientists and they all die - except for, ofc, the scientists? A rom-com, rivals to lovers? A horror movie where a seemingly haunted house is, surprising no one but the protagonists, haunted? Or a superhero flick where—

You get the point. If it can be (or even is - movie crossovers are welcomed!) a blockbuster, it can have Berlermo. And we’d love you to join us in writing or illustrating them!

For inspiration, you can see last year's Berlermo Blockbuster offerings in the AO3 collection here. And since prequels and sequels are very much "in" these days, writers who participated last year can also choose to further explore last year's fic 'verse!

Artists are more than welcome to participate! You can either pair up with a writer to illustrate a poster or make a "trailer" for their blockbuster, or you can have your own take making a concept poster, trailer or gifset for your own original idea.

The fics can be one-shots - they don't have to be, but due to time constraints…

The AO3 collection will be open between May 1st and May 7th, and will be announced in time - we'll keep you updated of all details!

Hi there! April 3rd marks two years since the best scene in the history of television happened - The Chapel Scene. A date like this should be celebrated and we have just the way to do it!

How will we celebrate Berlermo Day 2022?

Big days are best to celebrate in the community. That’s why this year’s celebration will include everyone who wants to participate. It’ll help you find new fandom friends and share your thoughts.

And here is what we'll do:

Starting from today, you can, hell, you’re even expected to, send asks to this blog. You can ask the whole fandom or just a certain group, e.g. artists.

Examples of asks:

- When did you start to ship Berlermo?

- Question to the artists, who is the hardest to draw?

- Question to the writers, whose POV do you like the most?

You can ask whatever you want to know as long as it’s about Berlermo. There’s no limit of asks you can send. The more the better!

On Berlermo Day, April 3rd, this blog will publish asks it has received for the event.

And if you see an ask that you want to reply to, reblog the post with your answer.

This way, we can start conversations without the "what if they don't want to talk to me??" fear and inspire each other with new ideas and thoughts.

To let the Berlermo tag blossom this spring, we have come up with the idea of “Berlermo firsts”. The concept is that you write a fic or make a drawing with the theme of a “first” for Andrés and Martín (for example “first kiss”, “first fight”, “first vacation together”) and we all post them on the 20th of March, the beginning of spring. ❤️

Since it will be spring soon (at least in the Northern Hemisphere), we want to organise a little fandom event to celebrate the beginning of the season and, with it, the first flowers of the year.

The theme will fittingly be “Berlermo Firsts” and here is how it works:

- You think of a “First” for Andrés and Martín to either write a fic about or draw something for. This can be, for example, “first kiss”, “first vacation together”, “first fight” etc. While smut is allowed of course, we encourage you to think outside the box – you can literally write/draw any kind of first time they experience together.

- There's no official call for sign-ups, but if you decide to participate, please reblog this post! Talking about your idea is opțional but encouraged. Also feel free to send an ask to this tumblr with your idea(s)!

- You post your fic or drawing on March 20 (the beginning of spring hehe) either on AO3 or on Tumblr and add it to the collection: BerlermoFirsts. If you post on tumblr, tag #BerlermoFirsts. (There’s no rules for how long a fic has to be, it can also be a ficlet.)

At the end, we’ll make a list of all the fics and drawings and post it here. We’re excited to see your firsts!!
