I love these stories, but you can tell how little care was put into them. For one, I’m dyslexic. Reading is hard for me, and I tend to misread a lot of words, but even I caught multiple typos and instances where names were swapped around while reading in multiple stories. How did these never get fixed? Payton and Marley’s names are swapped so frequently in pizza kit that it’s hard to tell who the main character is supposed to be. It’s even wrong on the back of the book.

Speaking of errors on the back, in the second graphic novel, the stories are Fetch, room for one more, and the new kid. In the summary, there’s the description for out of stock instead of Fetch? How did that even happen? Was no one proofreading these before publishing them?

Finally, why is so fucking hard to match the OFFICIAL ART for the protagonists to how they’re described to look??? I’ll start by addressing the technically “non canon art” that was cut to save on ink.

Lonely Freddy. Alec is described to have curly, blonde hair. You know how he was drawn? With straight brown hair of course. Also, the foxy plush that was a major plot point in the story was changed to a princess doll? Did you even read the fucking story before picking up the pen?

Fetch. Greg is described with long, blonde hair. He’s drawn with short, brown hair in the old art. Even in the first preview we got of the GN, Greg was clearly drawn with dark hair, and it was later changed to blonde. Did they get backlash for it or something?

There’s more I could say about that art, but I’ll move onto what I really want to dig into, the graphic novels.

The breaking wheel. This is the BIGGEST example of the artist not taking the time to even know what the characters they’re drawing look like. No one looks the way they were described to in the book. Reed was given the usual short and straight brown hair these protags get slapped with instead of long and curly. (Half a point, at least the color was right). Julius was turned into a stereotypical jock when the book made a point to show off how much a snobby, rich, brat he was. Give him his stupid, cashmere scarf, that was important to the story, I swear. They took his scarf, his wavy hair (can no one draw curls?), and sharp teeth. So fuck good designs then ig. Finally, the twins were white washed for no fucking reason!

In the book, Shelly is described to have thick, black, chin-length hair. Pickle is described as “Short and dark like his twin sister.” … They’re not white. The drop of diversity we get in these books, and Shelly is turned into the most basic white girl I’ve ever seen, and Pickle is just boring.

What’s the point of making visuals of these stories if the visuals aren’t going to mirror the stories??? I still like Fazbear frights, but yikes. What little of a fandom we’ve got, we gots do the art of we want it done right. Pictures under the cut.
