Marsha P. Johnson
One of the leaders of the LGBT+ movement in America, she was known not only for her strength and bravery as an activist, but also for her boundless generosity. If you complimented an accessory of hers, sheâd give it to you.
â
This is part one in a series of animated portraits Iâve been working on this summer of women I admire!
Now seems like a good time to remember that lgbt rights were fought for, not freely given.
And that the first pride was a riot, lead by black trans activists.
Beautiful art and an important reminder.

Unfuck the world
Despite the fact that the pandemic is exposing; what we already knew, about how deeply flawed every single fucking system in America is, itâs also shown us that some people have inherent goodness in them as evidenced by the GoFundMe pages being heavily funded, strangers buying groceries or essentials for each other or the man in the short north earlier who was walking around handing out care packs with hand sanitizer, bathroom wipes, and hundred dollar gift cards to Kroger to every homeless person he came across.Â
Take that to heart, to the polls and if you have a set of skills that can help people who are currently dealing with a series of shittier and shittier circumstances, please help.Â
Iâm still looking for work after being laid off due to forced closure of my chef gig but imma do what I can.Â
Iâm currently updating my Lil Bubba website to include a page of items: bread, stock, soups and cookies that I will deliver to people nearby free of charge as I know the grocery situation right now is less than ideal and hey, Iâve got time and the materials, absolutely no money but, why not unfuck the world a little?

Ok Boomer
Proud family is always in our hearts but itâs great to see positive representation again . Not centered around struggle , toxicness , or self hate . Just a normal family .
I seriously read that as an ICE thing until I got to the bottom.

LISTEN UP
Today I did something that terrified the fuck out of me. But ladies, we all gotta do it at some point.Â
I got a contract for fulltime work given to me.Â
I looked at it.Â
I realized, calculating the amount they wanted to offer, that it would actually be less than Iâm making part-time now.Â
So what did I do?
Let me tell you, every single piece of me wanted to stay quiet and settle and work my way up the ladder.Â
Until I realized that
I am worth more than they were offering, and it would be an insult to value me at any less than my actual worth.Â
I have a masters and a yearâs worth of teaching under my belt.Â
I am a qualified professional who wants to make more than assistants pay.Â
Their reasoning for the pay was insurance. Iâm given insurance thatâs worth a great deal, so I shouldnât worry too much because that added up to a bigger salary. Except insurance doesnât do jack shit if I canât pay for an apartment or car costs or student loans.Â
What did I do?
First
I breathed. I took a breath. I washed my face and had a quick cry in the bathroom. Ainât nothing wrong with a real fast cry.Â
Second
I left a note on my bosses desk asking if he could speak to me about my contract whenever he was next available.Â
Third
Once in my bosses office, I calmly handed him my contract back and said, âIâm very honored that you thought of me for a position, but I cannot accept what youâre offering me. I have a masters and Iâve taught in this school for a year, and Iâd been under the assumption that Iâd be receiving a different position than this.â He asked me what I was looking for. I said, âI would work for no less than [MY RANGE]. And if you cannot offer me that, then Iâll have to continue working for you part time until I can find another position elsewhere that can.â I thanked him very much for the offer. I was polite and upfront about my expectations for the position that I wanted.Â
I canât tell you what will happen. But I can tell you that going in there and establishing myself as a no BS worker who looks out for herself and negotiates got me farther than if Iâd said nothing.Â
I donât know the outcome yet. I really donât.Â
But I can tell you that he is currently rewriting my contract with higher pay.Â
Will it be high enough to keep me there? I donât know.Â
But I do know that today was me putting myself forward and taking a chance, and chances, no matter how small, do pay off.Â
Ladies.Â
DONâT BE AFRAID TO SPEAK ABOUT YOUR CONTRACTS.Â
ITâS FUCKING TERRIFYING.Â
BUT DO IT ANYWAY.Â
BECAUSE YOUâRE WORTH MORE, AND THEY SHOULD KNOW THAT.Â
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.Â
GUESS WHO FUCKING GOT HER MONEY TODAY
Speaking up about your paycheck actually works
OPs first post came across my dash and I wanted to reblog it, but then I decided to see if there was a conclusion to this story and this makes it even better!
Reblogging for the nachos
Itâs not easy being my color in this industry, itâs really not, and these conversations are really hard. I donât talk about a lot of this stuff.

Rogelio de la Vega and Darryl Whitefeather challenged stereotypes around masculinity. The actors who played them discuss the legacy they leave behind.
âIf I learned anything from Darryl Whitefeather â and I donât want to come off corny â but, it would be: You canât love people too much. You canât love too hard. It doesnât cost you anything. It really doesnât. You can just love people and support them and send positive waves their way. And it just makes their life better. It makes your life better.
Darryl also never stopped trying. He failed all the time, but he always was trying his best. I think thatâs the legacy of it.â
Today (March 31) is International Transgender Day of Visibility, and Iâm sending love to all trans folks today, and always.
