parbhandariâ:
Even though his adivce was admittedly all over the place, it still served its purpose. Aparna did manage to take a single full breath of air and let it out as a heavy sigh. As if the entirety of the worldâs weight was on her shoulders â when, in reality, three people in the entire event knew who she was.
Diamonds or no diamonds, they would be walking out of the event with as much money as before. Maybe less if they got too tired and decided to take a cab instead of the subway, or if Ben didnât come home tonight. Either way, the fantasy of a heist still wroked. âOhâ what, because Iâm brown I âm good at stealing?â Her indignation was as feigned as his, but she cracked a chuckle faster. âYeah, yeah, did my mom tell you that?â A beat. âWhy do you think we were even invited? I like the free food as much as the next girl but it seems like such a wasteâŚâ
.
He rolled his eyes at her comment, pushing her in the shoulder as his eyes danced around the room, not even really looking at her. Heâs not great in situations like this - even with his partner in crime next to him. âYour mom didnât tell me anythinâ. We donât talk about you - weâre just both very into the same recipes. Sheâs a great cook, Parna. Some of her recipes just- ingenious.âÂ
Tilting his head to the side, he shrugs haplessly. âI dunno. Weâre reporters, journalists, work for the big newspapers. Might not get the big jobs but weâre still on the payroll, arenât we? Could be somethinâ to do with it.â
