Here I deliberately lit Lisa's baby to be as opposed to her face to focus the eye on what's coming. In this technique I shoot a bunch of naked branches (no leaves) slightly underexposed so that the light peeking through won't burn through the silhouette on the portrait shot. I think this is so evident in this image of Lara looking straight at the camera. There's a sense of assurance and (dare I say) power that exudes from this image. *Wet Collar* Canon EOS300 + Agfa 100 Model: Marie ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One the virtues of collaborations is that by introducing variations in your process, they force you to consider things differently. Here Ida shot a variety of wet leaves (and don't I just love the droplets...) on a black card background. As a consequence, the leaf appears where it does, but the rest of the image is the unadulterated portrait. So clever, so simple and yet I never though of trying. *Entwife* Canon EOS300 + Agfa 100 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ About a year ago, after a conversation with a fellow photographer, I started thinking about the opportunity for collaborations as part of the Photosynthesis project. I reached out to a number of film photographers I knew and asked them either to shoot textures for my portraits, or portraits for my textures. As all things in life, initial enthusiasm led to delays and life getting in the way and only now are a few of these finally taking off. This is an image from the first such collaboration with Ida from Norway. She shot textures last fall in the woods around her home, and in December I got Marie back to the studio to shoot the portraits. Unsurprisingly, many textures didn't work as intended, and miscommunication led to a couple more misses, but some of the stuff that came out looks like nothing I've ever shot, which was exactly what I hoped would happen. New avenues for investigation. I'm somewhat limited by the constraints of my EOS300 which limits multiple exposures to 9 frames. I decided to shoot super low ISO film (12 ISO here) to get more latitude even in bright daylight. These types of film are super contrasty, of course.
