Danny cares, he cares So LOUDLY he would yell self-preservation into Steve if he could. Sadly due to his abandonment issues Steve doesn't have object permanence when it comes to his loved ones loving him in return so he makes a face of a slack-jawed surprise completed with a barely contained smile of delight and fondness because his crush shows signs of caring about him.

One runs toward danger, the other swears the whole way there, yet somehow they always arrive side by side, prepared. Jokes stitched over bullet wounds, sarcasm holding the line, pain learned how to soften when filtered through “you’re mine.” They build a home out of cases, out of late nights and trust, out of staying when leaving would be easier, just. Fear is spoken loudly, devotion never is, but it shows in the quiet way one hand always finds his. No rings, no speeches. Just choice, repeated again: two lives tangled forever, amen and amen.
