You all have heard about Suguru Geto, right?
A big, strong guy with long black hair put into a bun, dark clothing, a hatred for humanity, and⌠and the most beautiful set of charcoal-colored eyes Iâve ever been able to witness.
And they were staring right at me.
So intensely.
So powerfully.
SoâŚ
Someone elseâs.
But I would be getting too ahead of myself, wouldnât I?
It was a very usual Monday noon. I was sitting with some of my friends around a small table on a cafĂŠ's patio, enjoying my drink whilst the rest of my friends were still eating lunch. It wasn't any grand, luxurious cafĂŠ; it was just good enough. There weren't too many people around, and it wasn't too noisyâa really surprising sight in Tokyo. Thatâs why I like it so much. Itâs an amazing feeling to find calmness in this rushed and loud world.
I was listening to one of my friends talk about this guy she was going out with. He seems nice.
âSo after that delicious dinner, he took me home, of course. But he didnât push me to let him into the apartment. Isnât it, like, so rare for guys? He just gave me a kiss on the forehead and left. But! When I came back down later, there were flowersâtulipsâon the door handle. I was feeling like royalty, fr.â Lila finished the story of her date, finally putting that cold penne that was hanging off her fork into her mouth.
The only thing running through my mind was: âHmâŚtulips are beautiful.â
Iâve never been in a serious relationship before. Yeah, I would fuck around here and there, but never to the point of, you know⌠the white picket fence and the blue roof. I keep asking myself, does the right person not exist, or am I just the wrong person for everyone?
Listen, yeah, itâs not like I need anyone to take care of me. I can pretty much take care of myself. But the thought of having a warm bed at night, a steaming cup of coffee in bed as the first thing in the morning, and somebody to hear me laugh and cryâŚ
But there is someone.
Iâve been seeing this one man in my dreams lately. Very regularly. Some of the dreams were very niceâcuddling on a couch, watching a movie with a cat on my lap. Others were intense. Either it be in a âthe bed brokeâ way or a âdonât you dare fucking leave me!â way. I finally feel at peace with him. But itâs just production of my imagination, isnât it?
I think my mind is trying to make up a hallucination. Of somebody who would look at me with love. Somebody who will worship me.
Somebody who would listen to me ramble about my day or what happened on my show.
Mind is such a strange place.
As me and Lila were walking, she didnât talk about anything other than this mysterious man. She seems very interested inâŚGaryâŚor was it Sato? Ugh I keep zoning out.
âI was on a call with him, and he told me he wanted to meet my friends.â Lila looked at me excitedly as she said this.
âOh yeah? So we're gonna be able to finally meet this Prince Charming of yours?â I asked Lila in shock. Theyâve been going out for a few weeks now, and she hadnât mentioned that there would be a meeting any time soon.
Honestly, Lila isnât the relationship type. She pretty much jumps from one branch to another until she finds her prince on a white horse. Maybe this one is different. I hope it is. She should be happy.
âI want you to be the first one to meet him. Please?â She grabbed my arm, tugging like a kid in an amusement park.
I looked down at her smaller figure, my eyes wide and a brow raised. âMe? Why me? I'm not really a great choice for this. You know I donât feel comfortable around strangers.â
âYeah, but I trust you. Youâve seen every guy I was with and were right about the relationship. I need your confirmation.â
I sighed. I didnât really like this, but Lila was looking at me with those wide doe eyes. Fucking bitch. She knows Iâm too weak for this.
âOkay, fine. Just send me the location and the time.â
Itâs D-day now. What did I put myself into? I would rather just stay in bed and watch The Big Bang Theory all evening, but nooo. I had to put myself into this situation. *Sigh* Fuck. As i held a drink, for courage of course, in my hand, i looked into the closet. âOkay, what to wear? Something comfortable, but not too comfortable. He can't think that I'm a bad influence.â
After I put the chosen clothes on (and left the pile of unchosen ones on the floor), I looked into the mirror one last time. Itâs fine. My makeup is done, and my clothes are decent. Wait. I look one more time. âActually, I would bite myself in the ass if I couldâI look good. Rawr.â
I caught my head and put it back on my neck because itâd fly out the window, before heading out.
âOkay, she sent me this location⌠is this not it? Oh my God! Donât tell me I got fucking lost,â I was mumbling to myself while trying to figure out the map. I was already late; this was awful.
After about five more minutes of bumping into random corners, I finally found it. Phew.
I could see Lila through the window; she looked stunning, as always. Heh. I tried to catch a glimpse of the Prince Charming, but there was a plant right in front of his face. I couldn't see it. Only his hairâblack as the midnight sky, with a little bun on top.
Wait⌠Am I going crazy? Why does that look so much likeâŚDoesn't matter.
I blew all the air out of my lungs and thought about whether I should run back home, smoke, get myself a shot of something, or all three in one.
âItâs gonna be okay, Y/N. Itâs just a random guy.â
If I had just known how wrong I was.
âBreathe in. Breathe out. Okay, letâs go. Sit there a few minutes and leave.â
I pushed the door open, getting a very needed hit of a cool breeze from inside the restaurant. I slowly walked to the table. I still couldnât see him; he had his back turned to me. A few more steps, and I was standing at the table.
I kissed Lila on the top of her head as a 'hi' and finally looked up at the prince.
Oh, I shouldnât have done that.
Because what looked back at me werenât the eyes of a stranger. No. No.
Eyes.
Those eyes. Straight charcoal, hair so soft. I could practically feel them laying next to my head on the pillows in my dreams. Those lips that I was kissing just before I woke up.
âAm I still dreaming? What is going on?â
My heart felt like it was laying right on my tongue, and I could feel it beating in my ears. I felt faint. Then, I heard something above the heartbeat.
A voice. His voice. Oh, that dulcet voice.
âHi, my name is Geto. Y/N, right? Um.. Hello?â he asked with his hand outstretched.
When I realized he had asked me a question, I swallowed my heart back down to my ribcage and put my hand into his quickly. It was so warm. So familiar. I must have a fever.
âYes, sorry, just zoned out a little,â I tried my best to smile. âNice to meet you, Geto.â
âGeto.â I rolled his name in my mind for a few seconds. It sounded so pretty.
As I sat down opposite them, I got too far into my head.
âThis must be a coincidence. This canât be happening. Why him? Why with her? Is this some joke the universe is pulling on me?â
Lila immediately started talking about this show she saw somewhere.
The only thing I could do was nod. Because my ears felt like there was hot wax in them. I didnât hear her. I couldnt talk, focus or breathe.
My fingers feel like they have small blisters all over where his hand touched mine. And the phantom weight of my dreams pressed heavily against my chest.
Slowly, as if feeling the sheer weight of my panic, Geto leaned back in his chair. He let out a soft, hummed response to whatever Lila had just said, but he didn't look at her.
Instead, those charcoal eyes drifted across the table.
They locked onto mine.
Why do my lungs feel like thereâs a whole pond of pebbles in them? The casual mask I tried to put on at home, melted away as if it was nothing but a rubber doll held above a fire.
I wanted to tear my eyes away, I really did, why is it so hard? Who are these invisible little people holding my eyes on him, and stomping on my heart from the top of my throat?
He didn't look away. âWhy isnât HE looking away?â
He just studied me with a dark, terrifyingly familiar intensity, as if he was reading every word that appeared behind my eyes.
And right then, looking into those eyes that followed me every night, the truth settled deep into my gut like hot magma.
Big, strong guy with long black hair put into a bun, dark clothing, a hatred for humanity, and the most beautiful set of charcoal-colored eyes I've ever been able to witness.
And they were staring right at me.
So intensely.
