“God gave me you Dallas.” She managed to smile. “There’s no one else besides myself I’d trust to figure out who done this to Dimitri, us.” she gulps swallowing the hurt. “I never thought I’d have to burry him. It never crossed my mind not once.” her voice shook as she tried to hold it together. Nova came around the corner with running mascara and Reese in a wheelchair. “The funeral is starting.” She said angry at Bekka. Bekka nodded with her head low. “Aside from burrying dad this is the hardest thing I’ve done. - Look at them.” She said looking at the boys standing in the doorway. “They don’t know what’s gong on.” Bekka walked over taking the twins hands, Rebekkah holding Gadget and Hotch stayed with Atticus at the hospital. Bekka realized that maybe she neglected this family and she felt sad and guilty. Vera came over in a black dress. “Is that a freaking preacher?” her eyes squinted at Bekka like how dare she. “You know Carter wasn’t religious! Make him leave or I will.” Vera snapped. Bekka was so done with Vera trying to control everything. “I want to give my boys something to believe in. When they realize that their dad is no longer on earth it will help them cope knowing they’ll see him again one day.” Religion was only a subject Dimitri and Bekka had touched on briefly with each other agreeing not to pressure the boys in their beliefs letting them decide.
Vera shook her head disgusted with Bekka. “You couldn’t even respect him enough just one time to allow him to the farewell he would want.” Vera turned to the preacher man. “Hey you! Dean, Carter wouldn’t want you here just know that!” Vera walked over the the coffin placing her hand on it crying. “I’m so sorry Carter.” She felt it should have been her first.
Elle came through walking on the outdoor rug to the stand where she signed her name in the book tearfully along with Deana and a pregnant Frannie.
Bekka was upset once more as if she didn’t have enough on her that she would have to carry the baggage of Dimitri’s insane friend. Nova wanted to see her father before they burried him but Bekka refused to let her because she said she wanted Nova to remember her dad they way he was, So Nova was struggling to believe it was actually her daaad in the coffin. “It just seems staged.” Nova whispered to Reese. “Maybe Bekka killed him if that’s even really him…. it could be Rocks for all we know.” She bit her lip a little trying to hold back her tears. “I need to tell you something Reese….” Nova looked around to make sure no one was listening. Bekka seen Nova whispering but ignored her. “I heard mom. Her voice in the background of the phone call with Noah. Well…I think it was her.”
“Attention everyone!” Father Dean stood there getting all the attention, well for the most part. “Let’s bow our sinful heads and pray.” Thaddeus was intrigued looking around seeing all the grown ups with their eyes closed and heads looking down. “Loving Lord we rejoice in Your victory over sin and death and the grave and thank You that death has lost its sting and the grave has been robbed of its victory, in and through the precious name of Jesus, in Whose name we pray, Hallelujah.” Dean raised his head, “You may open your eyes little ones.” He said to Thadd but Thadd was crying and that made Bekka cry. “Can we have a break? I need a break.” She needed her Valium. “There is no break when you’re dealing with the lord Bekka dear, sorry.” He nods and mingles through the crowd. Vera shook her head at Bekka, “You’ll pay for this one Bekks. You made Carter’s death a mockery!” She said and rolled her eyes heading back to her car. Bekka wasn’t one to challenge female conformation but she did imagine herself slamming Vera’s head into the coffin a couple of times today. “I guess you’re not staying for my speech!” Bekka shouted to Vera. “I’ve seen and heard enough of you for the rest of my life.” Vera said as she made her way out of view but remained around in respect for her best friend.
“Mom…” Bekka said as she kissed away Thadd’s tears and he became fussy. “I don’t know If I’m strong enough to do a speech…in front of the boys.” Dimitri spoke words at Walter’s funeral but now Bekka was forced to do it herself. Rebekkah patted her shoulder, “Only you can deliver this and do it justice. He was yours no one else’s.” She denied her daughter’s gesture. Bekka rook her meds and grabbed the boys hands taking the place Dean had stood. “I…” Bekka looked out at the others. “Dimitri changed my life—” her throat felt so much pain it was unbearable “No, he gave me a life,” Her voice became raspy as she chucked back tears. “I’m so grateful to him.” She shook her head and ugly cried. Bekka was disappointed in herself. “I’m sorry–” She kissed the coffin feeling to blame. “I’ll always love you, always.” And for the first time he didn’t reply back to her i love you and she felt abandoned. Kat hugged Bekka. “I’m so sorry, love.” She said and looked over her shoulder at Damon.
Dallas couldn’t believe they were acting like this mostly Vera. He kew emotions were high and it was all fueled well. “Ver, Ya don’t mean that she’s doin what she thinks the boys need. No one is seein clear right now.” They had lost a lot too. Dallas stayed by Bekka’s side feeling it wrong to leave her when her father and her baby daddy had both passed and he was the only man in her life she could lean on and he knew she needed that because of Walter. He looked at her as she spoke with eyes that said ya doin good. But they were just for comfort. he put his arm around the small of her back.
Ben looked around at this shit show so called celebration of life and was sad for Dimitri but glad that his own remembrance would be nothing of the sorts. “Do mind?” He asked seeing her nod it was okay Ben took the stand. Detective Carter was a lot of things. Arrogant, literal, serious, but one day this young lady walked in and for the first time since he transferred over to our unit I saw him cutting up in the break room just to get her attention. The biggest goal on his mind wasn’t his work to try and snag my job away any more it was about trying to get her to fall for him the way he did for her with plastic candy canes.” He half smiled. “He was much to proud to admit it but the kid got butterflies around her so badly that sometimes I swear I could see’em flying around the room when those two were together. I watched a man so determined to get to the top fall in love with a woman and step back so that she could work and suddenly the only reason he was in the building anymore was to bring her lunch. When he rejoined the force along with his fiancee the station felt strong again. He was dependable and she kept his heart in the right place so that he could be. Carter dedicated 18 years of his life to the protection of others myself included. Bullets flying he risked his life just to give me a fighting chance even though I’d already been hit and we did always see eye to eye. And he lost his life on duty responding to a call from our station to help bring to justice those that had fallen just hours earlier and that makes him our brother.” Those still alive in the force.
“And just like him we won’t rest until we bring those responsible to justice or our hearts stop beating.” He looked at Bekka. “I’d like to give him one last radio call if that’s alright with you.” He nods and walks over to the cruiser pulled up beside the grass and grabs the mic to the radio and swallows hard once before taking a deep breath. “ 0116, 0116. 0116 do you copy? 0116. Last call for 0116. After Eighteen years of dedication I.D 0116 Is out of service. on 10/31/18 Detective Dimitri Jarvis Carter was senselessly murdered while on his way to responding to dispatch. We thank him for his bravery and he and his family’s sacrifice. Rest well Detective, We’ll take it from here.” Ben turned the speaker off and folded flag off of Dimitri’s coffin and walked over handing it to Bekka with a nod of condolence and looking at the Boy’s. “They’ll make great men someday.” Ben hated seeing a family torn apart and felt the need to hold his tightly in his arms when he got back home but sadly he was going to have to attend many more funerals this day including his own brothers.
