The Rage is Maddening

“ mmm–I guess you can have a hug. “

She teases lightly before moving over to hug the other tightly, smiling as she did so. A happy lightness settling in her chest.

She seems to brighten up, attempting to keep the triumphant grin from her face.

“ Alright–you have a deal. “

“ Well–he’s not around to tell right now–so yah don’t have to tell him. “

“ Well…I’m sure if…someone doesn’t tell him–he won’t find out. “

   “Mirai, you and I both know how well NOT telling him things have gone in the past.” Aka you being grounded and Gohan having to sleep on the couch.

   “Hello, I’d like to bail my child out of jail.”

   “By the way Mirai, I can’t guarantee you won’t be grounded if your papa finds out about this.”

   With her soft-voiced question, Gohan felt his heart shatter. What could he tell her that wouldn’t cause more heartache then he’d already caused with his absence in her life? Gohan took a seat in front of her, taking her hands. It may have seemed like he was babying her, but he was trying to level with her.

   “Your Papa and I... We still have things we need to take care of. That’s why we can’t be here right now, but I don’t expect it to last forever.” He sighed, knowing this was a hard thing to explain. “This sort of thing happens sometimes in the Time Patrol, and it makes it hard to be around those we care about in a consistent manner.”

   “I may go away again for a while, to help your Papa finish what we need to, but we will never stop loving you. You’re our precious daughter, as dear as Eva is to us. No matter how long we end up parting ways, that fact will never change. We’re always thinking about you Mirai.”

I DIDN’T NEED IT ANYWAY

   “Alright Piccolo, I promise I’m going to give this sparring session everything I’ve got. You want to see what I know now, then you got it! Prepare yourself!”

   “Uh, well... It’s not really a mystery how I got it,” Gohan lightly traced a finger over the scar on his face. Seemed most of his present selves were curious about it, and he couldn’t blame them. They always seemed identical until one saw the marking that marred his skin. 

   “It’s a battle wound. I got caught in a crossfire during an Android attack.” That was also the day he saved Trunks’ life and lost his arm. Remembering the loss of the limb made him grab his arm in reflex. He had both arms again thanks to his husband, and he’d be forever grateful for that.

    He ponder over his words, juggling them inside his mind for a bit before realizing Gohan may be onto something vital. It was as the other said; being gone for so long as they have made their whole respective of things change completely; but Trunks also likes to believe that because they were not around humans for so long they learn to realize the importance of how small they were back on Earth. How vast and big the universe was…

Being a time patroller can only provide so much limited freedom before it repeated itself all over again in the same location or the same similar time flux. “You are half right, but the other half of that is also totally voluntary. I like to think we WANTED a change…there is so much we can do; and achieve within our time frame that finally getting out of that loop hole; we may have found or achieve something greater than ourselves.” He looks up at him.

Watching him.

     “Time patrol can only get us so far.” he stated. “Don’t you think?” 

   Gohan moved to sit beside him, mulling over Trunks’ words in his mind. His partner was right about that. “Yeah, I think we needed a change. A change of scenery, routine... Something.” Gohan leaned against the back of the couch, dark eyes turned towards the ceiling. Trunks’ question about the patrol made him stop and think.

   For such a job, one could be easily fooled into thinking it was limitless in terms of worlds and possibilities, going through all eras of time and space. In reality, it was much like Trunks thought. “I agree,” he said after a long moment of silence. “We end up repeating ourselves after so long. There are endless worlds out there, but most have the same faces and problems.” 

   “So I hear you fight pretty well! My present self thinks so from what I’ve heard from him. Would you mind sparring with me?” Always looking for a fight, that was Future Son Gohan anyway. Boy loved to spar with anyone that would give him a chance, and Videl just happened to be the latest victim.
