I freaking LOVE Young Sherlock. I love the dynamic between Sherlock and Moriarty. It’s perfect.

The subtle foreshadowing: “If you start wearing a hat like that I’d no longer be friends with you.” It’s truly a tragic story with the audience knowing that they’re doomed no matter what. A bittersweet use of dramatic irony.

But more specifically I love how the show shows who they are. Having the two characters do similar movements when walking, finishing each other’s sentences, having Moriarty appear in Sherlocks ‘mind’. They are the same. The same coin.

And we get to enjoy that for a moment. But then it blatantly shifts when Moriarty kills a man and that difference becomes clearer. He finds himself enjoying it.

The divide was always there: Moriarty was more open to law breaking and constantly on alert, ready to punch whereas Sherlock isn’t. He can’t. He doesn’t know how to fight because he’s on the defense. He runs. Moriarty stays.

Sherlock has his family, he struggles to see his father as a terrible person even when the evidence is stacked against him. Moriarty has no one. In this case- all he has is Sherlock.

And this show beautifully captures how tragic their characters are. No matter the circumstances they were always going to be enemies.

The only thing stopping Sherlock from suffering the same fate as Moriarty is morality.

The last episode Sherlock doesn’t trust Moriarty with new information and Moriarty feels betrayed by Sherlock because he doesn’t agree with his plans with the poison. Sherlock likes solving the mystery, Moriarty likes the game of it.

The cracks are starting to become clearer and I can’t wait for the second season.
