Tyrion Lannister thought he had many friends. He was named Hand of the King ahead of his Father, the Lord Tywin Lannister, and oversaw the governance of King's Landing in a time of great need. He laid his plans carefully, he wielded his power with what he thought was great calculation and cunning.

In his great efforts, he had one sweet pleasure; Shae. And even that was veiled aways in fear. From his sister who was driven by a thirst for revenge after Tyrion send the Princess Myrcella to live in Dorne with her betrothed. From his father, who had made him swear not to bring his proclivities to court under pain of terrible punishment. From those who still sneer and whisper dwarf and imp and half-man behind his back.

The Blackwater had been a success; a great victory against the invading forces of Stannis Baratheon, but it was his father's victory -- and amidst the battle, something terrible fell Tyrion. An attempt on his life saved only by his shy squire, Podrick Payne. Now, Tyrion has woken up from recovering from his wounds, shunted away in a tower without a so much as a care from his father. Now lacking friends, security and being disarmed by his new terrible scar, Tyrion is forced to recover with what little allies he has left. . .

His first interaction with Jon. I love all his moments with Jon, but the first one is very dear to my heart. The random somersault, his empathy and advice for Jon ("never forget who you are, for the world surely will not"), and of course, "for just a moment Tyrion Lannister stood tall as a king" (Jon I, AGOT).

All his interactions with Cersei in ACOK. But especially the moment when he tells her that Stannis and Renly are fighting one another, and they have a good laugh together. It's such a funny moment, and it's made better by the fact that he spikes her immediately afterwards. Their relationship in a nutshell, basically.

His trial in ASOS. “I was born. I lived. I am guilty of being a dwarf, I confess it. And no matter how many times my good father forgave me, I have persisted in my infamy.” “This is folly, Tyrion,” declared Lord Tywin. “Speak to the matter at hand. You are not on trial for being a dwarf.” “That is where you err, my lord. I have been on trial for being a dwarf my entire life” (Tyrion X, ASOS). It's so sad, and so powerful. We see how, despite his childhood abuse at the hands of Cersei and Tywin, in AGOT and ACOK, he repeatedly emphasises his loyalty to his family. Jaime's the only one whom he truly loves (and who truly loves him in return), but the other two still have his loyalty, and he has this consistent, but repressed, desire for their affection and approval. And he is consistently rejected. This speech is such a brilliant culmination of that. Also, this is one of the few moments that the show got right. I cannot read this moment without thinking of the absolute stellar performance of Peter Dinklage in GOT s4.

His and Jaime's conversation when Jaime frees him. “They made me fight a battle without my big brother to protect me” (Tyrion XI, ASOS). He says it half-jokingly, but we know from his POVs that Tyrion has always staunchly counted on Jaime's protection. Like... that's his big brother, his defender, the only person who's loved him since childhood. And he expresses this sentiment right before Jaime tells him about Tysha (which, though Jaime himself was a child with his own issues with Tywin, was undoubtedly a huge betrayal for Tyrion), and Tyrion retaliates by lying to Jaime that he did kill Joffrey (an idea that horrified him back in ACOK, not because Joffrey was his nephew, but because he was Jaime's son). It's just such a train wreck, and it's SO sad. I love these two so much.
