What if I started posting the little comics of all the deaths my goobers have gone through. Hm. Thoughts to think about.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/73434796/chapters/221782201
I'm back! The hiatus was much needed and I am now spending 3 hours of my life studying the fundamental theorem of Calculus and am writing depression to cope! Silksong: Threadborne will continue to be updated until the end of this third, which will be in ~12 or so chapters. Happy reading!
If you're new here: Beware the tags.
Happy Valentines Day! To celebrate I posted the second most (subject to go down the list) depressing chapter in Threadborne. Go check it out:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/73434796/chapters/208695086
Unfortunately, the notes I took while writing it are too long, so here's the complete list without having to compete with ao3's character limit, uncommented; spoilers for Threadborne, obviously:
Poor girl over thought so much it didn’t stop until Hornet had to directly tell her that it was bad even though she knew and just couldn’t stop fixating on that fact
Lace please stop catastrophizing drink some water
You should get a decanter of endless water to ground yourself
Didn’t mean for her to depress this far but we stay balling
Can we get to 1000 words of her overthinking chat
We did
Lace I’m so sorry
Lace took you through the mental gymnastics done by an Olympic medalist to come to the conclusion that she has: 1) No free will, 2) Belongs to someone, and 3) Why she feels so broken and lost. Lace you need professional help and a hug
“Derogate” THESAURUS ALERT THESAURUS ALERT
Got that Aphid lore you wanted
Is it as tasty as you expected
The cogflies being this cute and Lace quietly loving them is not something I had on my Threadborne bingo card but I’m glad it is
OH MY GOODNESS WAIT THIS CAN HELP
Give Lace a pet it will make her feel so wanted and loved
Give her one of Eira’s kids she’ll take the best care of it
Lace reminiscing on the canonical tracks is so cute someone give this girl a music studio so she can recreate them
When writing the moment she realized she was fraying I really didn’t want to say emotions and just make it permeate the words because it’s more fun that way
Lace can never be free of her religious trauma huh
“Okay. This was happening now.” SAME REACTION LACE WTF IS GOING ON
Fear and anxiety are powerful things I guess
So I guess this is Threadborne’s first suicide attempt huh
I just winced and she hasn’t even started.
The idea of trying to kill yourself not because you think it’ll be better but because you think it’ll save you from ‘punishment’ is terrifying. I should probably add the psychological horror tag to Threadborne, huh.
“Avoiding writing voidheart like it’s worth an Olympic medal,” War says, trying to distract themselves from the fact that Lace is trying to kill herself by violently ripping off her skin
I’m making this last for more than a paragraph
I feel like the horror isn’t truly stated so I’ll say it here: Lace is doing the equivalent of tearing off the necrosis on her chest to rip out her heart and other vitals because she thinks it will be more merciful than whatever her anxiety tells her Hornet has planned after fracturing her arm and tearing off the skin and muscle on that same arm.
This is genuinely horrific and nightmarish to both write and experience
Do you have any idea how terrified you have to be of someone to try and kill yourself to avoid them, not life, and to be this desperate to die? This is lasting for more than a paragraph because I need to make sure this comes across correctly
This is a good length of her tearing herself apart I’d say
Now to make her obsess over what would happen if Hornet found out she did this to herself and catastrophise yayyyyy
God this is painful to write
Don’t mind me, just... Making an intensely traumatized and mentally ill girl have a mental breakdown over what another one would do to her... Yup... Oh God.
The best part about writing this is looking at it and going “Hm, do I need therapy?” and then subsequently “Nah I’m fine” and continuing to write the most potent self-hatred on the planet
I’m actually having a hard time writing this because I want her to be comforted
I mean she will in this chapter but... Man, I have such a love/hate relationship with psychologically ruining this character
Really earning that psychological horror tag, aren’t you Lace? Begging yourself to stop hating yourself because you’re confused on why you hate yourself...
Lace it’s far too easy to hate yourself you need to go to therapy
Well folks, that’s what we call self-loathing! I
I’m gonna
Take a break to eat
And uh
Cry
My heart breaks for you Lace, truly
I promise you’ll be at least content by the end of this
I’m over here writing about how Lace is crawling over to the mural of the Cradle and about how she is so incredibly bad at dealing with loss and then I hear the Savage Snake “spotted” sound effect
It’s okay Lace, you won’t be touch-starved soon dw
See what did I say
No longer touched starved
Now the next thing to solve is your ‘I don’t need to sleep’ problem and we’re good to move to the 1st finale
I want it to be done by 23 for a loose goalpost for the record
Hey did you know that Lace was supposed to deglove herself while painting the mural
You know now
Have fun sleeping tonight
Lace, do you feel touch differently from the average bug? Yours is an odd sort of shell, after all.
Do you feel pain less intensely? Need more pressure before you feel contact?
That's a very good question, kind stranger. I wish I could properly answer it, but unfortunately, I have no clear way of knowing how the average bug feels touch...

so i spent my whole weekend doing nothing productive. haven’t studied for my midterms that are literally this week. just spent it being gay and playing minecraft and roblox. Am I cooked or what
When in doubt, be gay. Do crime. What are they gonna do ungay you
Oh boy another update before J disappear for a fortnight
Silksong: Threadborne has completed another arc, The Festival of the Void! Three chapters, 21k (6k more than The Surface). Enjoy, and I’ll see you on the 1st of February while my life ceases to get calmer!
Future updates say that constant weekly updates to TB should happen in around… Mid-February to around March-ish? But the next two movements should last us a while
https://archiveofourown.org/works/73434796
Can we talk about how horrific being Silksong is because I feel like we don't talk about it enough
The horrors under the cut because you deserve warning 👍
Translating it to human terms, being silkspun is basically being given a full human body that'll live for a while except over an unknown amount of time your skin and musculature (and bone depending on your headcanon) melt and fall off your body like wax and you need to constantly be molded and held up by strings to avoid coming apart
You decide how painful this is, I think it's painless because that's more horrific
Phantom was basically a skeleton when you kill them; if all the black stuff is their skeletal structure/what their silk binds to then you were fighting half a skeleton whose skin became a dress
Seeing Phantom like that from Lace's perspective and knowing everything about them must have really upped the trauma and fear of being "faulty" in her mother's eyes huh
Another Lacenet headcanon for the soul
Lace cries a few hours after sex/any declaration of love from Hornet because no one has ever told her that they loved her before - With Phantom it was implicit love but she never actually heard the words exist them, so now she cries about never feeling that wanted before by anyone ever and Hornet helps her through it
I found my phone has a stylus and have not stopped since. It is lagging from the sheer amount of bug yuri I've drawn.
I'm sure you can find the posts this was inspired by, I can't
Actually please find the posts this was inspired by they deserve to be credited

I know I've been slacking on updating this, but Silksong: Threadborne just finished its first arc! I'll be taking a break because quite honestly they have ruined my life and I need it to be unruined but I should be good after a fortnight. In the meanwhile, 16k words of these two trying to make it work are here!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/73434796/chapters/197067701
Ugh... Lace... Lace Silksong... I love you Lace Silksong
I drew this in 10 minutes. I love her so much
It's imperfect but I don't care she's just mweh
Something I was thinking about today that I am not seeing in fic of any sort: Hornet and Lace don't know each other. At all. Hornet didn't jump down that pit for Lace, she did it to save Pharloom. And Lace has only ever met Hornet a couple times in battle and while she watched the spider from a distance on her arrival to Pharloom, there's a very big case to be made that she wasn't interested beyond where Hornet's journey intersected with her desire to get rid of Grand Mother Silk.
I'd love to see some Lacenet fic where they have to start at the beginning after everything. Just a "well, shit. I guess we're alive so, uh, hi." I like a legit very slow burn enemies to lovers and these two at best start out as strangers who rightfully might still see the other as an enemy what with all the murdering they tried to do to each other every time they met before.
More thoughts on this:
Silksong spoilers so I don't flashbang anyone. You've been warned (Entire game)
Hornet killed Lace's entire family and Lace had been shown to want her mother to look at her. "See me, your daughter..." Not even speak to her, just LOOK at her. Do you have any idea how neglectful you have to be for your child to beg for you to look at them and for that to be the bare minimum? For centuries? Not only that, but The Mist Phantom created - Their Wraiths - Both used and stole silk from travelers, meaning that Lace wouldn't have been able to go through it to see them, at the very least, not without sustaining heavy injuries, especially if she didn't realize the silk flies' importance in navigation. We know they used to be close, so Phantom's involvement is... Another post for me to start writing; the bottom line is that they grew distant enough, whether by Phantom's or Mother Silk's hand, for The Mists to be formed by the organ. It's unclear how long ago this was, but since the silk in the organ is old enough to be considered a memory by the Needolin dialogue, we can determine quite a while, when the Citadel was at least functioning.
Another fucked up thing Lace did: The shrinekeeper says that Lace "[Kept] the Citadel clean and quiet..." And when you first walk in from the Underworks, it is dead silent. I was actually extremely unsettled from how quiet it was my first playthrough, and if "Clean and quiet" means "killing literally everyone in the Citadel and stopping pilgrims from reaching it", then Lace committed genocide. The only living creatures in the Citadel are the Shrinekeeper, Trobbio (I have no idea why this gay man is alive but I'm SO happy he is; maybe he and Lace are friends or he performs for/with her in exchange for his life), and pilgrims that stayed quiet enough to avoid her wrath. This also ties into the fact that the only time Silk bothered to look down was when Hornet entered the Citadel when Lace removed all "distractions" from the Citadel so her mother would acknowledge her.
All Hornet needed to do to get a reaction was walk in.
Skipping forward a bit, her bed is covered with white roses. This seems like an innocuous detail until it's made clear how dark The Cradle is; it's covered in silk, yes, but the flowers reflect light so well that even in Act 3, the Lace 2 battleground seems to glow with light; meanwhile, without the Monarch, the rest of the cradle is pitch black. Even when the Monarch reveals herself, when she falls beneath the platform you fight her on, you can't see *anything.* Lace tried to make herself so bright that if her mother ever bothered to look down at the Citadel, her daughter would be the first thing she saw. And the only time she *did* look down was when she saw Hornet, and tore her child's heart from her chest to give it to her replacement. That is a Greek Tragedy.
Skipping forward to SotV, Lace and Hornet are saved both by the Void and by Silk, who Lace had originally attacked with the intent to kill them both (I believe her thought process was 'I will be the last thing she sees to ensure she dies by her ignorance'), so being saved by someone she thought hated her is immensely confusing. Not only that, but it's clear that she saw her mother as this infallible being and that gods were completely and utterly untouchable ("How could you hope to stand against [GMS], a god..."), who (she believes) wrote out the entirety of her life, and is then just. Gone. For her. And her only reliable source of stability, her sibling, you killed.
I would not be surprised if she:
A) Joined them
B) Tried to kill Hornet
C) All of the above
She loses everything and desperately needs support, otherwise she'd regress, which is why I think Lacenet is still possible given this information. I can't see anyone in Pharloom wanting to give Lace the modicum of a chance to redeem herself, and Hornet is the only one (other than her late family) to have cared about her ("This one... The dark shall not take."), though it's in the wrong way; it's motherly, and since Hornet controls whether Lace fades away or continues living, like her Mother, I predict Lace will then try to please Hornet like she did her mother by "being a child", which won't work and lead to her panicking and repeating her life if nothing changes. The last thing Lace needs is a power imbalance, and since Mother Silk decided that Hornet was better, I can see Lace asking why she wasn't enough.
If Hornet actually bothers to understand her - And I think she will, based on the pins and needles we get on the title screen after SotV - Extremely toxic and dependant yuri becomes just dependant yuri. Hornet needs to soften for Lace to see her as anything else other than "Her better" and start seeing her as "an equal" so she doesn't see herself as broken. That opens doors for them to take each other to Applebee's.
But uh yeah I think those are all of my thoughts on Lacenet
Bottom line is, Lace wouldn't immediately flirt with Hornet because she essentially ruined her already broken life and it would take YEARS for them to be comfortable enough with each other for them to go to Applebee's.
Some pet names Hornet gave Lace (and some other sayings she'd hate):
Silk Moth: Something Lace asked for when she grows tired of hearing her name. She finds it quite easy to hiss/say with rage, so having something that requires time to speak is a nice change of pace. Hornet has obviously added variation to this, Lace's favorite being "My darling little silk moth~"
My darling little Silk Moth, what shadows continue to haunt you, all the way to our bedside~?
Shit got her bashful actually
Little Girl: Not as liked, but it's not as demeaning as "child", so she allows it. She enjoys the way Hornet hits her g's and for her to say it toward her is a wonderful feeling and usually elicits a playful response
Little girl, have you no proper manners, or is this some desperate attempt to get my attention?
Oh, little spider~! You know me far too well for your own good.
It would seem so. How unfortunate you grow predictable each passing day.
That was unnecessary.
Clingy Little Pest: Lace likes it purely because Hornet only uses it when she's being a nuisance and never in any other context. She finds it funny and sees it as a bit.
Clingy Little Pest, must you clamber onto me like a freshly hatched larva unwilling to leave its nest?
How else am I to survive without your lovely fur, Spider? You surely shan't survive without my silken shell.
You...
I'll finish for you: Are radiant and perfect. Thank you.
Time for trauma
Child: This may as well be a trigger word. This probably deserves an entire post dedicated to it, but the watered down version is the following: Lace has been told and forced to be a child her entire life even as she aged, and has significant psychological trauma from it. Hearing it in any context fills her with an unspeakable rage and you probably won't leave alive unless Hornet knows and likes you, now that I think about it. Even then, she still gets very angry as those around her that know of such.
Your current words hold little worth to me, child. Now, I--
Hornet.
Yes?
Do. You. Want. To. Try. Again?
I-...
Is that a 'no' I hear?
Your words hold little mirth. I have other matters to attend to.
Better. Now get the fuck out.
"You look like your mother" in any capacity: Not as bad as 'child', but still pretty bad - Instead of instant death, you get a simple warning. She's pissed, but not enough to actually kill/fight you.
The character was changed from Seth to First Sinner due to a suggestion thread; feel free to read in the comments of this post!
After pondering it, Sinner, I've decided--
Well, now - Isn't it the bastard child taking after her mother, trying to control what refuses to be? I believe that's you, anyway. Fossilization is not kind on the eyes, though it's something I'd expect you of all people to understand...
... I'm going to pretend you didn't just insult me as deeply as you did and finish speaking. I came here to grant you absolution. Freedom, as you had wished against the Monarch long ago.
Ha! What freedom lies in death, Grand Daughter? Do you really think it'd be a better fate for me to join my sisters than for me to remain here? Has your nihilism finally reached an element unbearable for you?
... I've changed my mind.
Coward.
What?
So frightened by the truth. You'll always be underneath her shadow, even as it blends with the Void that lies underneath your Kingdom. You weren't meant to hurt me. You'll make the same mistakes. You're making one right now.
You know just as well as I do: Me and my mother could not be more different.
Then why are you still speaking to a failure such as yourself?
...
I missed our talks.
Time for some classics to finish this off!
The White Knight: A title she's always worn, it makes her feel important despite its namesake coming from herself. She coined it when she casually did genocide and hasn't bothered to change it, and though she's mostly changed for the better, hearing it in the mouths of others with reverence does still bring her a sick kind of pleasure.
Ah, Knight. It is... Good to see you.
As it does you, Ballow. How goes the repairs to the diving bell?
Well, as I'm sure the silk has told you, it's at ease. It should be ready for... Whatever you plan to do down there in a few weeks.
Wonderful work, Ballow. Perhaps great things lie in your threads, after all.
Sister/Silk-Spun Child: Something she only allows Phantom to call her. It is the most potent reminder that she is different from everyone else, but she and Phantom can be different together. It is a comforting feeling that has formed due to their shared motherly trauma, as she knows that they would never use the child label against her, or take advantage of her, period. She's still uncomfortable with the final one, but it's not instant death, nor even the anger Hornet receives - She just trusts them that much to assume that they would never purposely say it. Outright saying what she is in a referral is a sign of trust that they see her for who she is, not what she is, and that they never saw the latter in the first place.
Hey, Phantom!
Silken Child.
Go fuck yourself, I missed you.
*laughs* How have you been doing, sister?
Well, and you? How has freedom treated you?
... Not well!
It's so overwhelming. What do you mean I can go outside and now fear that mother is watching me.
Such is... An odd circumstance to be in. It feels a bit empty. But at least we've been given the choice.
Indeed - Yet another chance to make things right again.
And there we are! If I come up with more dialogue/pet names/words/phrases I'll do another
so do you think i should start writing vocaloid yuri on ao3 then /hj
Yes
Do it, write soooo much vocaloid Yuri, flood the channels with yuri
