There's no love like an entomologist's love for their favorite weird-looking bug. This love is the purest biggest love ever.

Like I have a professor who studies weevils. He's excited about them like a child, even after years and years of studying them. And nearly every time someone mentiones weevils around him, he IMMEDIATELY joins the conversation and infodumps about his long-nose-buddies for 30 minutes, even if no one asked. When working in his lab, students have one rule: DO NOT MENTION WEEVILS, if you don't want to get stuck in endless weevil lecture.

I find that precious.

Maybe it's because I know the difference between biting insect and insect that just wants to sit somewhere but I can't empathise with people who's first instinct is to smack insects that land on them. You are a literal behemoth organism and a teeny tiny fragile animal with a blip of a lifespan compared to yours elected YOU safe enough to rest against for 5 minutes before it continues on its path. It probably can't even properly conceive the scope of your existence because it could fit on your fingernail but it does know you are warm and dry and that warrants attention when you are so small and helpless against the sharp edges of the world. For a bug all of Earth is a potential enemy and you have the option to provide ever so brief respite. What do you mean you don't think that's awesome? What do you mean you just want to kill them?

acorn weevils, shockingly, want acorns to feed on and lay eggs in, and so are more often seen in late summer and early autumn, when mature acorns are everywhere. so what was this Curculio venosus doing out so early on a practically fruitless oak? i don't know, and judging by its expression i don't think it does either
