Everything else has been said in terms of Vox and season 2, but something I wanted to bring attention to was why exactly he might be so fascinated with marine life of all things.
As we see throughout his human life, he still really likes fish/sealife, and that is shown through the lapel pins on his suit
There's the obvious unsubtle metaphor here of him going from a small fish, to anchoring himself into fame, to becoming the shark but that isn't what this post is about.
So let's do some math
If Vox was 30s to 40s when he died (let's split the difference and say 38)
And it was the "late 50s" when he died (for the sake of making math easier, let's say 1958, we dont know when Hazbin takes place, but let's assume late 2020s)
Then what could've happened when he was early 20s?
Guys, Vox was in the Navy in WW2.
Maybe he served a communications role, which would help him get into broadcasting afterward. But that's likely where his fascination with marine life either started, or grew. And if he served a combat role (or even if he didn't, as basic combat training would be required regardless of post), that would help him in killing later on.
Also, the PTSD didn't help his mental state, I'm sure, lol.
