Seriously considered photoshopping the wrinkles off my forehead in this photo. But why erase the years of wisdom and clarity I’ve received? The lessons I’ve learned? The truths I’ve uncovered? The time it took for me to discover who I am? I’m proud of my age and what I’ve accomplished here so far. It’s caused some wrinkles, yeah. How many women see photos of themselves and only see their flaws? C’mon, don’t be shy, raise your hand. 🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️ Yep. Always. All ways. Up until now. Every time my mind says, “ew!!!! Look at that...” “fat roll,” “double chin,” “wrinkle,” “flabby arm,” I have to replace the thought with something else like, “what gorgeous...” “flawless skin,” “strong back,” “beautiful line,” “killer legs...” “I have in this photo.” It’s not an easy process, but we can reprogram our brains from this negative self talk! First step is recognizing when you do it. Second step is remembering to find a positive replacement for that thought, and step three is replacing the thought completely. Before you know it, you can be full of confidence for every freckle, curve, line, mark and shape on your body. Stop giving the patriarchy what they want, and own your power!! You are beautiful, strong and so amazing, no matter your shape, size, height, ethnicity, or other. I love you! Another B&W! 📸: @bigcameraman I chose this as my last post of the day, after reflecting on the day. It’s such a strong photo to me, but much of what could identify me is hidden. Women are always meant to stay quiet, be nice, smile, don’t take up space... and if we don’t, we are hidden, ridiculed, shamed. I was at the beach on Friday and after kindly smiling at a man who said hello to me, his response was, “you know, you really should smile more!” Trust if looks could kill, he’d have spontaneously combusted in that moment. No. I do not have to smile for you. I’m not here to be your ornament nor your doll!! I saw today, so many of my incredible, strong, brave and bold female friends posting proud pictures of themselves in honor of one another and our power. Do you know how a lot of men in my feed reacted? They posted their own B&W pics, started other “challenges,” asking other men to post photos (in b&w) about men they look up to instead. You know what i have to say to you?? Sit👏🏽. Down👏🏽. It’s not your turn. Let us have this. Let us empower ourselves.
