Dear Taylor, I threw you a birthday party.

The past decade, I have been fighting an eating disorder. This past year has been one of the most painful and difficult years, as I desperately fought for another chance at recovery. I finally got into residential treatment this fall and as a condensed version of the story, as part of the program we get an opportunity to plan and organize a “themed dinner” to challenge ourselves and try to enjoy food in a way we haven’t for a long time. Two months ahead of time, I started to think of what I wanted to do for mine and immediately knew it would need to be Taylor themed. Because it was meant to be, the theme dinners always falling on a Tuesday night lined up perfectly with your 27th birthday. I started planning a menu of foods that would be plays on your songs (one from each CD) and kept it a secret until the big day came. (I hope you’d be proud of my puns!!! Ex.: “ Jump Then Fall-afel”, “pita b-RED”…😉😉) I got to help make the meal and made your special chai cookies, finally getting to eat one, despite the fear. It was so special and meaningful, and hopefully you won’t think I’m insane… I wanted to honour you and celebrate with you. Thank you for being a part of my journey all these years and for being there for me during the darkest and hardest parts of my life. You continue to be part of my recovery as I keep fighting to hopefully one day find health and freedom. I hope one day I can tell you just how huge a role you play in my life. ❤
