Sound waves may not travel through a vaccum, but we can listen to the sun!!

Because the sun is a plasma sound waves from turbulence are visible on the solar surface; much like ripples on a pond (just far more chaotic).

Astronomers can then measure these ripples to explore the sun’s interior (just like earthquakes here on Earth) and we can also use these to produce a sound:

Also, the sun is often the ‘brightest’ radio source in the sky and actually contributes to radio static.

I’ve also learnt the term ‘spherical cow’ this week. Mostly from people saying ‘this is more of a cow than a spherical one’.
