Ragged is... I don’t even know?
I’ve been wanting to try and do a webcomic for years, but always thought I wasn’t ready to do one. A few months back, I decided “if I don’t just START a webcomic, I’ll never do one.” Unfortunately, it turns out that In a lot of ways, I really WASN’T ready.
Ragged is kind of a mess - Though I’ve got a lot of stuff scripted out, there’s parts that have me a little lost yet, and I haven’t done nearly enough storyboarding. A lot of pages feel disjointed from one another, a scene I thought would be cool is kind of just sputtering out, and I’m doing a terrible job at “show, don’t tell” with pages that are crammed full of text. For god’s sake, I spent a solid month doing an honest-to-goodness exposition dump. And nevermind the quality of the writing.
Maybe this is just the fact that I’ve spent most of the last month fretting over and executing the move, but I don’t think things are going the way they should with Ragged. For the moment, it may be best if I just try and reduce the frequency of the updates, maybe drop big chunks that have a better sense of continuity? Take a long hiatus to do in-depth planning and backlog building? I have no idea. I’ll maybe try to get a page out this weekend, but with easter and everything that’s uncertain.
There’s always the possibility that I’m letting the perfect get in the way of the good, but this just feels more like a lack of prep and time. I spent a good 2-3 weeks planning just the first few pages, after all. Something like that, as much as a YET FURTHER drop in productivity absolutely KILLS me might be better for the comic? I don’t know.
