people always say the first step is the hardest, but i never found the beginning of recovery to be the hardest part. even at the beginning of recovery there is still safety in rules and routines and you are still âSomebody with a Mental Illnessâ. youâre still focusing on your illness, just in a different way. the hard part is letting go completely. itâs in the middle, when youâre not really sick but youâre not really better either. you can stop an action in the blink of an eye, but the thoughts stick around like a bad taste in your mouth. it gets hard when you look healthy, and youâre not breaking down, and everyone thinks youâre okay now but your head is still fighting every move you make. itâs hard when you feel like youâre losing your identity, but youâre not so sure you want to lose that part of yourself yet.
but you have to, because holding onto that identity is like holding onto a tether - you might feel safer and more secure, but in reality itâs only restricting how far you can go.
You're beautiful and you're wonderful and I'm so proud of you. You deserve happiness. You deserve recovery
You're even more beautiful and wonderful! I hope you had a lovely day. Lots of love x
I just came across your blog and it's so inspiring. Thank you for being a beacon of hope for recovering!
Thank you so much for this wonderful message. đđ
Six Reasons Why Youâre (going to be) Okay
A late assignment is not the end of your academic career. If something is late, itâs late. Whatever caused it to be late is in the past - go talk to your teacher now, and figure out what to do to fix it. Sometimes, they wonât even take off points if you explain what happened.
A failed class can be retaken. If you fail a class, it sucks. It really does. However, classes can be retaken. Thatâs the beauty of them. Youâll do a lot better the second time, I promise.
Small animals exist and would love you to pet them. It doesnât have to be now. It doesnât have to be soon! But find some type of small animal and pet it. Shelters have lots! Volunteering at a shelter is a good way to rack up both good vibes and release stress.
Youâre important to someone. It may not be someone you expect, either. Maybe itâs someone who sees you around and has a crush that theyâll never mention. Maybe itâs a teacher who believes that you can do your best. Maybe itâs a family member or acquaintance who isnât very good at showing affection. Hell, if no one else, youâre important to me.
No one judges you harder than yourself. Youâre going to take all your mistakes harder than anyone else. Think about how youâd feel if your best friend made the mistake you just made - would you mock them or constantly talk about the mistake, or would you be kind and drop the subject? You are your OWN best friend. No one is going to take better care of yourself than you.
Ten years from now, youâll be great at whatever youâre upset about today. I was always upset at my lack of social skills when I was younger. I wouldnât say Iâm amazing now, but I can hold a conversation with a stranger at the desk where I work without breaking into hives, which is a huge improvement. I had the weirdest intonation when I was younger, and now I sing okay. Young Me would have thought Current Me was a witch, though, skill-level-wise. Keep at it, whatever youâre trying to improve. Itâs going to get better as long as you care about it.

Reasons to recover
1. When you have an eating disorder you just survive. Health brings a wealth of experiences, you get to have a life again.
2. The giggles. When your body is starved it doesnât expend energy on laughter, when it has energy to play with you get to have fun.
3. Sleep. My eating disorder means I barely slept, I was irritable and tired 24/7.
4. People. When you are healthy you have the energy to be with people and socialise, you can go out with friends and not worry about having to have a coffee or lunch out, you can talk to the hot guy at the check out which youâve been admiring for the past month.
5. Favourite foods. You can appreciate your favourite food or understand and give in to cravings; your body is smart and only ever asks for the stuff it wants. If it is asking for chocolate, it really does need it- water wonât help.
6. Trust from your body. When you recover your body will trust you again, it will show you that it trusts you enough to have children in the future by giving you your period back, or telling you what it needs.
7. Festivities. You have to face the fact that most holidays and family occasions rotate around food of some sort, and it is no fun if you are avoiding it or consumed by food thoughts. Enjoy your birthday cake, look forward to Christmas dinner and Easter eggs, open your advent calendar as soon as you get up.
8. Self. Recovery isnât just for your parents, siblings, friends, teachers and doctors (despite it feeling this way at first since usually you are the only one who doesnât want it). Recovery is for you. You can eat when you need or want to, stop when you are full, party, sleep, enjoy life, like yourself, know what parts of you are hot (like me, Iâve learned my butt is pretty good). Donât just do it for those who care about you, do it for yourself.
Hannah, will you please tell me some reasons to eat?
ok. just some of the very extensive list of reasons to eat:
to be positive to be around
to fuel your body with nourishing food it deserves
to have energy
to choose food you want
for food to be food and not numbers
for your future kids
for your loved ones
if you feel you donât have loved ones then there are people in this world that love everybody and those people are worth doing it for, and also for future people that will love you too
for your actual health (yes even though society portrays eating as a big indulgence it isnât and is needed. food = fuel for the bodies maaaaany amazing things it does)
to walk, run, skip, cycle, swim
to inspire
to have a job
to study and learn
to celebrate Christmas and other occasions (birthday, Easter, bonfire night, Halloween..)
to cuddle your pets
to socialise
to be independent
to experience new things
to make friends
to heal
to concentrate
to get back what shouldnât have ever been lost
to fight your demons and give the bullies that big fuck you they deserve
to be able to relax
to be content with life
to show recovery is possible
to be strong
to live, not just survive
to go on holiday
to get your period back (sorry if youâre a boy, and yes periods are good for girls because it means youâre functioning and your bones arenât deteriorating)
another point: your bones and nerves
to fulfil your dreams
to be ok being ok and not *having* to struggle
to drive
to find yourself without your disorder
to prove all those buggers wrong who didnât believe in you
to feel emotions and not be numb
to not die (harsh but true)
to choose to do things and not have negative thoughts choose for you
to smile a real smile
to laugh
to give the child inside you what they deserve and anticipated
to be able to make plans without them being scuppered
to not go in hospital
to say I BEAT ANOREXIAÂ
to hug peopleÂ
to not hide away
for the sunny days
the rainy days
reading a book curled up in bed
summer BBQs with friends
smelling freshly mown grass
stroking a pet
fitting in nice clothes
feeling worthy
travelling and seeing the world
baking with your kids and not recoiling at the mix on their hands
having a slice of birthday cake
not just cooking for everyone else
to live
laughing till your belly hurts
for yourself
that is only scratching at the surface of all the reasons. there are so many more, and only ours for the taking.
you can do this xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Little reminders:
You are worth recovery. Fight for it.
Recovery is an ongoing process, it wonât happen overnight.
Just because you decide to recover once doesnât mean that you will. You have to remake that choice again and again, every single day.
Relapses will happen, but thatâs okay.
When you do relapse, pick yourself back up, brush yourself off, and try again. Tomorrow is another day.
You are worth more than what youâre going through.
Donât be afraid to ask for help, you donât have to do this on your own.
Reach out to others.
Donât ever give up.Â
Fight like hell.

Here are some little food reminders for today:
1. A slice of white Wonder bread is going to have the same effect on your body as a slice of Ezekiel 4:9 Flax Sprouted Whole Grain bread (Nutrient differences? Sure. Difference in weight gain/loss? Nope).Â
2. Fat-free salad dressing, cheese, ice cream, etc. tastes like shit and you are a fucking liar if you say it tastes better than regular products. Fat does not make you gain weight; a surplus of calories over your bodyâs expenditure will cause you to gain weight. Plus, fat will allow you to think clearly, talk at the rate of a normal human being, give you beautiful skin/hair/nails, and keep you satiated. Letâs leave the fat-free bullshit diet trend in the 1980s where it belongs. 3. A bowl of fruit or a bowl of veggies is not a meal.Â
4. A bowl of fruit or a bowl of veggies with a mini side of rice is not a meal either.Â
5. You can eat candy, fruit, chips, muffins, sandwiches, cookies, popcorn, cheese, chocolate, pasta, etc. every single day and still maintain your weight.Â
6. Going to a restaurant for a meal/challenging a fear food does not mean that it is okay to compensate later.Â
7. If you use PB2, Better ânâ Peanut Butter, or Walden Farms Peanut Butter and call yourself recovered, I will judge you forever.Â
8. Every food that you have stereotyped as âhealthyâ and âunhealthyâ has stemmed from media constructs. The reality is that NO food is strictly healthy and NO food is strictly unhealthy. Food. Is. Fucking. Food. Eat a wide variety and give your body what it wants. That is the best way to give a big fuck you to diet culture and an even bigger fuck you to your eating disorder.Â
One of my all time favorite posts. I wrote this back in April but this is always relevant. I am seeing a ton of people on the recovery tag that could benefit from posting this on their wall.Â
Breaking 2 ED rules despite the fact I've had a shit morning. Medium instead of small drink and 2 meals out in a day. Kicking ass.

âwhere did all your money go?âÂ
iâm either wearing it, or i ate it.
Friendly neighborhood anon here wishing you good luck in your life and everything you do! <3 never give up and fight for the life you deserve.

If you are waiting for that âperfectâ moment when you are 100% ready to change, then I am really sorry to have to be the one to tell you this, but it isnât going to happen. You have to make that day happen, you have to make that change and be the one to start things moving. Today is within your power to make that change. Donât keep putting it off till âtomorrowâ as we all know âtomorrowâ will never come. Itâs time to do things differently. Be that change. Start today.

Your sentence "I am eating like a champion though" just made me so happy, idk why but it's so good to see you're trying your best! Keep going like that, we're really champions, in a way :) x
We are warriors, every meal eaten or fear food beaten is a victory or attack on the eating disorder. You are not weak for recovering, you are stronger than most of the people you will come across and for that reason I see all recoverers as champions đź
