Bamsaegi can be the child Geumsaegi adopted to keep up the charade of being a woman.

EDIT: I remember now. I read it at my aunt and uncle’s house when I was a preteen. They found me hanging out in the library room and took it away because it wasn’t for kids. So, the Commanders would be the individuals sending him on this mission, so the same as in the show. I think I remember some scenes where Shi’s commanders or at least an authority figure was concerned about him as a man seducing another man.

I’m not sure about Bamsaegi and Undochi, unless you go along the lines of Bamsaegi having to be the adopted kid he needed to keep up the rise of being a woman, so Undochi would be a friend he has.
