ciarasawyerâ:
Ciaraâs fingers dug into the plastic bag wound around her hand. She was nervous. Well that may be an understatement. They had both been avoiding each other and for good reason. Her eyes flickered down to her feet as they dug into the sidewalk. It even hurt just to look at her. Her mind just raced with all of the things that she felt she had done wrong, ways that she could have been better. Her heart gave another thump against her chest and she let out a sigh unintentionally. She had to just let things go. Bea obviously wanted nothing to do with her and she just had to be okay with that. But deep down she knew that if she ever needed something or if she ever came to her, sheâd do her best to help her through whatever it was, different affiliations or no.
Beaâs sharp words brought her out of her own thoughts. She quickly looked back up from her feet to meet her eyeâs once again. Another painful thump of her heart. âOh, I-â, She cut herself off holding up the bag, her knuckles white from holding on so tightly. âI had some things I had to pick up. Nothing huge. Iâve got enough time, I think.â To be fair, she hadnât been keeping track, so it mightâve ended up closer than she had thought at first. âI know itâs pretty close butâŚâ She trailed off, a small smile on her face. âIâve got ways of staying out of view.â Ciara pulled her lip between her teeth. âBut you donât? Why are you out here? You donât have to tell me! Iâm justâŚâ She sighed. She was worried, especially for a mutant with a level like hers. âDo you need help getting back?â
Beaâs attention flickered from Ciaraâs face to the bag she held. It was the first time sheâd noticed it and she felt pretty stupid now, with her ex holding it up practically in front of her nose. If sheâd been anyone else, Bea wouldâve probably noticed that little detail right off. But it was Ciara and her stupid, gorgeous face, so of course that was all she saw. Just her, just the girl sheâd loved and lost like a moron. Well, it was better this was. Better for Ciara at least, who was safe from Beaâs bullshit powers and now protected by a different sort of family. Still, it hurt. It hurt to see her here now, to know she didnât have the right to be standing here questioning why she was out still or what she was doing. Ciaraâs life was not connected to Beaâs anymore.
Impatient, she cut a look down to the watch she wore, noting the time with some irritation. It was closer to eight than sheâd thought and she was a pretty far walk from her apartment. Blue eyes swung out, again drank in the sight of all the people sheâd noticed only moments before. The dude had disappeared, but the couple was lingering at a street corner and the older woman had made it further down the block. Life went on for everyone. Even them. âI know youâre not used to following curfew or whatever,â she said, looking back to Ciara, âBut theyâre pretty strict about that shit.â She knew very well what Ciaraâs powers were, but she didnât trust mutant control not to have something that could see past that. They were always coming up with new and fun ways to counter powers. Not all of them, but enough Bea was suspicious of what they did have pretty much all the time. A frown tilted her lips when Ciara flipped the question on her and she jerked her shoulders up in a shrug. âJust... walking,â she mumbled. It sounded stupid now, so close to curfew. âIâd rather get you back to your place. Are you still, uh. In the same place?âÂ
