after all this time, I went back to my Pokémon fic because I missed them so much 😭 I've shared wips for them years ago but those were for the anime verse. this is for the game verse!

“It’s not… too bad.” Her view roamed the living area and the open kitchen, which was almost too big for only one person. She bit her lower lip. “I think.”

Garchomp’s view followed his trainer’s, looking over their new temporary home. He released a curious sound before looking back at Kheira.

“Or perhaps… we could still leave in the morning. Before the professor shows up, and all that.”

Now Morelull blinked up at her. Only half a face with the most innocent eyes and yet the tiny mushroom-looking Pokémon makes her feel guilty even thinking about leaving.

Kheira shifts her weight between her feet. “Oh, don’t look at me like that, girl.” She gently placed her down on the windowsill. “What do you want me to do?”

Morelull did a few quick jumps closer to the window, looking through the rain into the barely visible distance. Regardless, she turned back to Kheira, eyes growing just the tiniest bit bigger.

So, this is what it has come to. Now even her own Pokémon have expectations. Kheira wondered if it was Alola or something about her that had everyone act like this toward her. Either way, it wasn’t exactly boosting her confidence, the worry still stuck in her throat.

“What?” she simply asked.

Jumping again to turn, Morelull pointed outside.

It has only been around thirty minutes and it was significantly darker by now, the rain grew much heavier. Kheira usually loved the rain and thunderstorms. The sounds, the smell, the fresh air it brought but this time, the uncertainty of what to do completely washed that enjoyment off her.

“Sorry girl, we can’t go out to play, it’s way too late.”

The little mushroom was fed up with her trainer, and for the first time visibly annoyed.

With the tiniest flaps of her wings, Rowlet jumped and squeaked to communicate with Garchomp, who looked over Kheira’s shoulder first and then moved into that direction. He returned a moment later, with his trainer’s Pokédex between his teeth.

Right, that wasn’t finished yet. Reluctantly, she took the device and brushed her thumb over its red casing. Never has she ever left a region without completing the regional dex.

Kheira dropped her head with a sigh. “Fine. I’ll think about it, okay? But now, we should—”

A knock on the door made her almost jump out of her skin.

For a moment, she thought she had imagined it. Wouldn’t be the first time but it really was the last thing she needed. At the very least Kheira had her Pokémon, so, really, nothing to fear.

Her heart had no time to calm down, as another knock sounded, resulting in the opposite.

While she took one small step backwards, Garchomp stepped up, a low growl rumbling in his throat.

What kind of person would show up at her doorstep at this time? The doorstep that has only been hers for a few minutes. Not even the professor knew she was here, or Hala for that matter. Did someone follow her? She was always careful and attentive, especially at night, and the only person she saw—

“Oh my god.” She muttered under her breath.

Quickly, Kheira lifted a hand to calm the dragon Pokémon again. At this point she wasn’t sure what to feel; confusion or rather embarrassment? One thing was for sure, though, the fear was all but gone.

When she opened the door, she was faced with the red X crossed over the Team Skull logo on the back of the guy's jacket. Something in her shifted but she couldn’t tell whether it was a good or bad feeling.
