OCs and AUs and HCs, oh my!

A fandom event for OCs and underdeveloped characters in Tolkien's world!

This event celebrates both characters of Tolkien's world and our own characters that need more love, by creating and reblogging all kind of fanworks, like fanfiction, fanart, fanvideos, fancrafts, headcanons, playlists, edits, moodboards etc.

The event is modded by @yellow-faerie and @elamarth-calmagol, and will take place between 24th August - 30th August 2026 for the fifth year running.

NSFW text entries are allowed and we’ll tag them accordingly when we reblog them, but please put them behind a “read more”.

We'll also be tracking the tag #tolkienocweek during this week!

Event Schedule 2026:

1. Family (24th August)

Create a fanwork about a family member of a canon character. This could be a parent, a child, a spouse, or any other part of the family tree, either implied by canon or entirely original.

2. Friends (25th August)

Create a fanwork about someone in the vicinity of canon, such as friends, coworkers, servants, or acquaintances of a canon character. Or maybe choose someone overlooked by the characters: the ordinary soldiers, farmers, merchants, and artisans impacted by the events around them.

3. Enemies (26th August)

Share a character who is an enemy (or part of a group of enemies) of the main characters, such as a Dunlending, person from Rhun, or King's Men of Numenor.

4. Strangers (27th August)

Create a fanwork about someone from a group of people we don't learn about in canon, such as the petty dwarves, Avari, or people from Far Harad.

5. Spirits (28th August)

Share a character who is not an incarnate being, such as one of the Maiar, a vampire or werewolf, one of the Ainur who never came to Arda, or one of the lesser wraiths Gandalf refers to.

6. Ghosts (29th August)

Create a fanwork about someone who haunts the narrative without ever showing up in it, such as the first generation of elves or men, or whom Tolkien created and abandoned, such as Eriol the Mariner.

7. Freeform (30th August)

Repeat a prompt, or share a character that doesn’t fit any of the prompts!

his names are a combination of something that sounds like my name (yulatië lighted path/ lit. spark path) and an approximation of the meaning of my name (fangamilya, downy-bearded/ lit. soft beard); with mengil being a sindarized version of yulatië. I went with yulatië over other possibilities as it matched with a horrible helcaraxë baby having a somewhat hopeful name. the translation meaning a path that has suddenly been illuminated by a small light. mengil as a sindarization just needed to sound like a name while vaguely resembling the original in meaning. fangamilya is uncomplicated.

the reason he sees every misfortune possible is a: its very funny and b: he was made somewhat as a point to highlight how much it would suck to be a normal nargothrond dwelling elf. like its just one thing after another. their [nargothrond refugees] main mistake was fleeing to doriath right before doriath imploded but there were several mistakes made i fear.

he lives in the elf caves in nargothrond but should have been a tree dwelling elf instead. he hates living underground hes so depressed. he wants to look at sunlight through leaves and sleep on a bed of clover. if he has to paint another pillar to resemble a tree in yet another winding windowless hallway he is going to lose his fucking mind.

most of his duties are to do with scribework and painting but he has also been known to make jewelry.

his best friend is by contrast an upbeat and lively elf who sings and dances and often joins him to paint when there are exceptionally large stretches of cave walls.

where mengil sits in a cave and transcribes texts and songs all day, she is the one singing them la la la. elf of many talents, she skips between singing and dancing and painting and writing down her many many songs.

she likes living in the caves. she hasnt seen the sun in a decade and prefers it that way.

she was born a mere five years before crossing the helcaraxë and thus writes far too many songs about the beauty of valinor and the light of the stars before the blinding sun (not her favorite), even though she does not remember these things at all.

she was also almost trampled to death by glaurung, almost killed in the sacking of doriath, suffered greatly in the third kinslaying, and then ultimately was washed away by the sea and drowned with beleriand. she didnt suffer quite as much comically bad luck as mengil but she is still a nargothrond elf after all.

some of the comics on the bottom are like two years old. i overworked them a little bit but they are still meh... the 2nd comic is about Maeglin and the silver haired elleth is my sister @hydras-writing OC.

looking back on this i realize i drew more yanay rather than both garp n yanay, sorry😭she's just fun to draw...
