It a new season for her multiplayer game and she was tired of seeing content creators say how hard it was she thought she’d give it a start. From rank bronze all the way to masters. Rose had started early, the coffee cup besides her was proof that she had been up for hours on end. She was playing games when the sun was up and still playing games when the sun went down. She hadn’t paid attention to her phone or at any messages she had received.
Once her last match was done, she decided it time to take a nice long break. Crackling her knuckles and stretching in her chair, Rose reached for her phone. Looking at all the notifcations; news alerts, phone game notifications, emails and some text messages.
Scrolling through she replied to some messages from her father, another from Claire and Natalie. The one from Jacob, right when she was going to hit send, his named had popped up on her phone that he was calling. Making a small noise in question, she decided to answer. Placing the phone to her ear she parted her lips to speak.
he’s started pacing the room as he waits for her to answer yet becomes still as soon as she does. for a moment he says nothing, panicking after not speaking to her for so long. it’s strange this panic. a few weeks ago they were so comfortable around each other - joking and making love. she was practically his best friend and now he couldn’t even say hello to her.
finally gathering his courage and probably right before she hangs up he clears his throat - nodding his head as if she could see. stupid.
‘y-yeah. sorry - hey.’ he says lamely, an attempt to make things more comfortable again.
‘i was just calling because well, we haven’t spoken in a few weeks and i know we aren’t ... like that anymore but ---’
but i missed my friend, i missed you. but he can’t bring himself to say that, can’t force it from his lips.
